When word of hit that The HST was gonna Hit,I at first thought "oh great another Bend Over Tax".
But honestly,Now,when I buy something at a Store,.I am not surprised by the Total at the Cash.
I figure,If I am buying it,I need it and I have to Pay for it...so I don't whine anymore.
..But I am bitchy about Everything else Now..haha..so Don't get me started..(sometimes I can't stand myself!)

Adds $400 to my commute annually at least. And I NEED to drive, I live in Newmarket and work at Leslie and Eglington, likely 3 hours EACH way by public transit!!!

Righty, I'm with you buddy!! but I don't drink much...pass the water? lol

Anees, we're not bending over and taking it, that would be gay But taxes are what pay for our public services, I have no problem paying taxes WITHIN REASON. And anyone who has met me or knows me on the board knows damn well I'm not rich. I'm working 3 jobs right now to pay for my own tuition and fund my stupid fc.

Jason, I know a bit of your situation so I can understand how -400$ would not help anything right now. But honestly, it is no secret that the Toronto boards are taking pages out of London, UK's transport program and pretty much making it very costly to drive. Not anytime soon, but gradually, driving a personal vehicle will become a privilidge. The only solution is to make enough $ to afford it, or to find an alternate means around it.

We do have some common ground here though: whining and complaining isn't going to change anything. Get over it.

I hate when people overstate the Canadian characteristic of "bending over and taking it." We are not complacent people, we do step up and fight for our rights. We have fought in wars, and are well respected in that sense. The simple fact remains that we know that we live in the best country in the whole damn world, and losing $xxx per year extra in taxes from buying commodities, and yes, that's all they are -even gasoline- is not going to justify anyone from leaving the country.

Canada is a good country, no doubt.

But, there are many others with the same rights and freedoms. Countries where education is a right, not a right with huge debt, nor just a priviledge. Countries offering better healthcare and social welfare, while maintaing equal or lower taxation rates. Canada is extremely wasteful with its tax dollars.

Some of you need to stop with the blind patriotism and become a bit more wordly.

White man stole the land from the 'Indians', and killed all the buffalo. But, that was a long time ago. Being First Nations shouldn't be an automatic exemption from everything. Nor should we still be expected to pay for the sins of our fore fathers. They are heavily compensated already.

You must live at home, Heating oil is going up 8%, Electricity is going up 8%, groceries are going up 8% in some cases. Even some houses you have to pay the 8% HST on. Now if you run a business could you see how this might cut into profit margins? Not to mention the fact that the new smart meters are going to double the cost of electricity during the day. not only is the cost of the electricity itself going to double the tax is going to double.

Just natural gas, gasoline, and Electricity alone I will be paying about $700 a year more. I'm not whining, I pay my taxes, and most importantly I vote, but the HST is bullshit, people that don't vote have no right to complain at all.

Actually businesses will be able to claim all HST paid against purchases, unlike PST where you were required to set up exemption #'s with every supplier, and if you didn't you were stuck with it. I'm thrilled about it from the business aspect.

I'd vote if I knew who the hell to vote for. I know little about any one party, and I'm almost positive 99% of any parties platform is BS just to get them elected. It's all tell the people what they want to hear, then do what we were going to do anyway. After a while it becomes hard to believe the government really has the peoples best interest in mind. Take the HST for example. Take a drive through northern Ontario and you'll be wondering where the hell the tax money is actually going. They should have chiropractors every 100 km.

You can still spoil the ballot if you aren't educated on who to vote for, all the parties are becoming more alike now so differentiating is getting more difficult.

As far as voting is concerned, don't just wait for the campaign bus to roll into town before starting to honestly think about who to vote for. Campaigns and campaign promises are mostly just fluff built on photo-opps aimed at hitting the demographic with the highest voter turnout in each particular riding.
On a regular basis, read the paper, watch/listen to the news and pay particular attention to what Bills are introduced and watered down/peppered up. It's the long-term performance of and reactions by the various parties that really counts.

Nismo's right (oh crap...I'm agreeing with Proctor...I need to seek professional help), those who don't vote don't have a right to complain - with one exception; those who are too young to vote. Although, they too have avenues through which to voice their opinion.

Just my two cents (plus applicable HST)
