Insurance Companies for modified cars?

Which insurance companies are popular among members here?

Are there any insurance companies out there that will insure modified cars?

marine insurance I believe. A guy at desjardins told me they will insure any modified vehicle, but you can only drive the vehicle 3000km a year, and it's 5g a year.

that is all here-say though.

I plan on switching to DesJardins from Allstate

Best solution is to get a broker. Which is what I did.
They will request your car to be appraised, and they'll find an insurance company which will cover you.
At the time I went with my broker, the insurance company was known as Pilot. Since then they've been bought out. Now it's called Aviva.

+1

I am going through this right now. After 5 years in BC, the ontario insurance situation sucks ***. I got nowhere fast by calling companies with my information. I went to a broker who took pics of my car and is now acting as basically a salesman on my behalf - while I was there he called a couple of people and was saying "He's not a 19 year old kid with no experience, he doesn't pose much of a risk". I'll find out this week what he finds out, but thus far a broker has already got further than I did alone. I'll likely have to get an appraisal but that's not a big deal - I had one done in 2005.

If your car is an 86/87 you need an appraisal before you even get it transferred into your name.
NICK..if you need one,I know a GUY..
back on topic,I have my 86 N/a Turned TII and I informed the insurance company that I have done some work to it.(the TII swap). They informed me that the Difference in Insurance is not Much.so I asked that they put that the car is a TII now..
I still have to get a Detailed appraisal for "peace of mind".That is,If I get in an accident that the insurance will pay the Value of the Appraisal.and not the Original price I paid for the car 5 years ago, when it was just a Bucket.

Quick update - My broker found me a company that was happy to insure me. I had an appraisal done in 2005 that he accepted and had a look at the car. I guess the fact that I am not 19 didn't hurt either. Collision, Comprehensive and $2M liability with $500 deductibles will be $80 a month. Not "cheap" but less than 2/3 of what I was getting raped for in B.C.

Passed the safety inspection this morning, so now all I need are some Ontario plates!

I'm going to be switching my insurance here shortly. I've been with a broker ever since I started driving, but I've found a different one that was more willing to work with me to build a better policy. My Rx-4 will be appraised and insured according to value in a "vintage" car policy. Only limitation is I will only be able to drive it 5000kms per year.
