Half bridge motor finally running (vid)

Finally got it fired up last night!

After working on everyone elses motors/cars for years, I finally decided to build myself a motor.

I'm using S5 T2 4 port irons with a fairly agressive Bridgeport on the secondary ports and an agressive streetport on the primaries.
The housings are JHB Cermet B and the S5 N/A rotors are also thermal coated by JHB.
Full Atkins rebuild kit with the solid corner seals.
10lbs Tweakit Super lightweight flywheel

Right now I have it running on all the stock S4 electronics, but soon I hope to use a V3 Megasquirt.

Enjoy the BRAP

It seems to run pretty good so far, I haven't had a chance to get it out on the road yet to put it under load or figure out the timing.

BTW I'm also using RX-8 stat gears on the motor

Sounds good Joe, Glad to see you got her running.

sweet.
do you think you will be taking it on the dyno sometime? i'd be really interested in seeing what the power curve and peak hp are like.

- you are using the stock NA injectors? do you plan on running a little bigger once you get the MS?
- you said you had some issues with the flywheel? what clutch and pressure plate are you using?

Aaron, I'm definatly taking it to the dyno! Once its running properly
Right now I have the stock S4 N/A injectors in it, but I will be putting a set of T2 injectors in it once I have the tunablitly.
The 10lbs Tweakit Flywheel I got was for a 6 port N/A motor meant to work with the N/A tranny, which worked fine, but the pressure plate I had to get for it was for an older 12A.

I'm using a 225mm 6 puck ceramic disc with the older 12A 215mm pressure plate. The pressure plate is a bit smaller, but meh.

Mr Cake, if you'd like I could e-mail it to you. send me a pm.

I got it out on the road today and now I realize that the stock electronics probably aren't going to work The ignition timing is waaaay off. So I guess I'll have to get the MS sooner than I thought.

Joe, just regarding the whole flywheel issue, if i wanted to get an aftermarket clutch+PP with the tweakit PP, for example an ACT one, what would i have to get (for what model of RX-7)?

The N/A flywheels that Tweakit sell use 79-81 12A pressure plates. They are flat like T2 flywheel and dont have the step in them.

I got my pressure plate and clutch disc from a company in Burlington called Euro-drive, they can custom build pretty much anything you want. I had my pressure plate upgraded with a heavy duty diaphram. If you want anything from them let me know.

Classicauto - yeah the idle is awesome Are you going to Cayuga on Sun? I'll be there.....might not be with my car though unless I figure out the ignition.

Do they have to use the 215mm pressure plate or can you use the more common 225?

All that I know is that the only pressure plate that would bolt onto the the N/A Tweakit Flywheels is the older 12A and they only came in a 215mm size.

hmmm...so i guess you could buy a 12a aftermarket kit (215mm disk and pp), and that should work? or is there a particular reason you used the 225mm disk?

Yeah a 215mm disc and PP would work fine....I just happened to already have the 225mm disc, so I used it instead of getting another.

I'll bring a couple AFMs for ya Joe

cool, thanks for that info Joe. let me know how the 10lb flywheel behaves. i'm trying to decide between that and the slightly heavier light flywheel.
