First time on a Dyno

Well i just had my first session on a dyno here in Dartmouth. Figured i'd see what my basically stock T2 would do. Not to bad, just shy of 180. Glad i didn't see the thread about the red neck on the dyno before i did this. I too was in the air on a portable unit! Here's a graph. Max power was about 6200 rpm. The printout i got also had torque, 169 ft lbs at about 4800 rpm.

Yea, I was pretty happy. I figure with 180 at the wheels that the motor must be putting out at least the 200 it's supposed to have stock. So I guess it's all working pretty well. I also felt good because a couple loud honda/accuras went before me and they were are hyped about 145. Of course, a 68 Z28 went after me and he did 350 or so! Put me in my place!

Y is the bottem scale in speed and not rpm? isn't that a little wrong? I know dyno's are done in 4 gear but really? speed? now they leave it up to u to figure out ur gear rations and finial drive convertions to understand what RPM u should be racing at! dumb asses.

What gear were you in? Looks like you were in 3rd cause you maxxed out at 90MPH+. Not entirely sure why, but I'm told it should be done in 4th, which is a 1:1 ratio as far a gearing goes. Think it has something to do with the torque ##'s.

Still 180 RWH seem pretty good for a stock Tll!

The print out they gave me at the dyno had the bottom scale in rpm, that's how I know the points of max power and torque. They sent me the files and told me where to get a free viewer called winpep7. For whatever reason, that shows speed rather than rpm and doesn't display the torque line. I guess they want you to buy the full program?

Also, the run was done in 3rd gear hence the speed. I assume that was fine because I was running full boost.

A little help from the downpipe and Apex cone filter no doubt. Oh yea, and my excellent tuning skills!

You guys and your fancy turbo's and fuel injection Give me carburetion and good porting anyday! I guess I should be happy with 230 at the wheels! Im just messing with ya! It is concerning about your wheel speed though. When we ran last our wheel speed was 146mph at 10,200rpm. A wheel speed of only 90mph definately sounds wrong, so you shuold check it out with the dyno guy. If the wheel speed is that far out, you might want to recheck your horsepower figures!

It was in 3rd gear so maybe 90 is about right. I wasn't really watching speed, just rpm and boost.

4th is optimal because your engine experiences 100% load. I have a friend who dyno'd his car. In 2nd Gear @ 8000RPM he made 120HP. At 5500RPM in 4th he made 130HP. We never went past 5500RPM in 4th because of a fuel issue that caused it to lean out.

Not bad, but I'm a little surprised that it's not a tad better. My S4 made 178rwhp on stock boost with only a 2.5" single exhaust (bonez downpipe, edelbrock muffler in cat position, presilencer, flowmaster 50 series). I was speaking with Nismo Convertable88 on Monday and he was saying that his S5 with an intake, 3" exhaust, 10psi, Rteck and 720 secondaries made 240rwhp.

Just thought I'd mention these things to give you an idea of how easy it is to get a big increase in power.

Next on my list of things to do is to get the RB full turbo back exhaust. I'll dyno again after that and see what happens. It would be nice if this were a little cheaper to do, was $50 this time, because it would be great to dyno everytime you do something to see what the change was. I'll also try a 3rd gear and 4th gear run and see if there is any difference.

Snrub, I thought there was no Rteck chip for the S5. Did I miss something?

I'm guessing that Nismo has a S4 ECU. Nismo?
