FC repaint

I will be getting my car completely repainted and all rust removed late this summer hopefully. and i was just wondering if anyone could suggest a shop in Calgary that will do this? and a suggestion on color would be helpful (i was thinking of the the rx8 "black cherry" colour but not sure).

I have no idea. I'm having my brother paint my car in the paint booth they have where he works. I'm going stock grey.

colour? whatever you want dude, you don't need the approval of others.
but for a suggestion, any of the stock RX-7 colours look good, just maybe don't pick red, white or black, we have enough of those running around

and no pink...not that there's anything wrong with that...

depends on the original colour. If a repaint involves door sills and engine bay, it's far more expensive. If you skip those two, and there's a high contrast between old and new colour, it can look extremely shitty. Imagine a black cherry car with a white engine bay and door sills, complete with overspray

i love my OEM sunrise red. If i were to repaint my car, it would be candy apple red.

Apparently red paint costs more.

I have seen an FC in malton that has been repainted metallic baby blue, looks really nice.

I was wondering how much work would involve to remove everything the tow the shell to the paint shop for repaint in order to paint under the hood and inside the door?

Is it even possible to do it in a home garage with decent amount of tools? Any one have any idea? or links related to this issue?

Yeah, I will be rebuilding my engine during that time so I will be removing the hood as well as all engine bay items, and I was going to remove all of the interior. You could remove all of those things with a basic set of tools and renting large tools (engine lift and such), but I was more interested in where I could get the paint and rust repair done.

Removing everything off the car is a pretty big job and can cost quite alot if you have the bodyshop do it. On the paint color, I dont think the Shinka Rx-8 color would look good at all. Maybe a metallic black, or a nice blue. Titanium Grey or IBM might look ok. Or you could go with your stock silver
You could try and search for shops people have got paint jobs at.
Hopefully you get your car on the road for the meet, and autocross.

I'm actually gonna be ripping my engine and tranny out later this summer and doing this very same thing. I'm gonna paint my car a graphite grey pearl...its a lexus colour. Anyway I do plan on towing it to and from the bodyshop and will pretty much strip the engine bay and interior myself. Should be fun

After thinking about it i'm not quite sure the shinka rx-8 colour will look good at all on a FC with a blue interior, and i keep getting suggestions of black or silver but there are too many cars of these colours and i wanted somthing a little more unique but not flamboyant so pink won't work for me

So now i'm lost for colour but some of these suggestions helped and have given me some ideas.

Yeah pulling the engine and stripping the interior will be alot of work but i like the big jobs, and doing a bunch of work at the same time, it always feels better once it is finally finished.

I would go with a nice blue, maybe from an expensive car, since they usually have nice colors. Porsche's Lapis and Cobalt Blue Metallic's are really nice. I would just go around and look at high priced cars, like Porsche's, Ferrari's, Lotus' ,and just see if any of them look nice to you. And just because the cars are expensive, all colors have a code, so you can just buy the paint.

i was looking at paint shops also and asked for 2 prices.. me prepin the car, they paint and them doin everything. apparently it is offensive to most paint shops to ask for just the painting and not the prep. understandable.. my friend had a paint shop and thats where all the money is. after the paint is on, it just ties up the booth for 24-48 hours! most places told me 1500-2000 for kickass paints. my car has no rust though. so prolly add 100$/per rust spot or small dent. good luck, hopefully shes back together for a septber meet or something.

I have been looking around at cars for a good colour and i have seen some i was interested in.

I wasn't planning on doing any painting prep work myself besides "dechroming", because in order to do the stripping and priming myself I would need to buy all the proper equipment and a larger air compressor, as well as the fact that the only painting experience i have is with rattle cans so chances are i could mess it up. Maybe sometime in the future when I have a crappy daily driver in need of a repaint then that would be a good time to learn how to paint as I would like to.

I was thinking of going with a two part urethane paint for the durability that offers.

Anyways any calgarians have any tips on shops?

i liked the color i used to have on my FC.. iw as going to go with a stock Mazda red from the new RX8's can't recall the name.. but this is what i ended up getting makes the car look more modern and its only a 2 stage paint lots are a 3 stage and are usually 2 times more costly, because of the extra work involved and the experince needed to make it look good. anyways the paints A BMW color and Called Sienna Red

You guys and your colours. Why not just paint it rust and get it over with instead of fighting it?

Blaze orange or a copper-like colour is nice.

I'm liking that colour but i don't know if it will work with a blue interior.

maybe if i could find somthing similar thats not red, blue maybe or another colour.

thanks
Anyone in calgary have experince with national collision? They get rave reviews on beyond, but i was hoping for a second opinion. Also concours was suggested to me by the dealer, wondering if anyone knows anything about them as i've never heard of them before.

If Wankels-Revenge does not want to do a writeup. I certainly will.

i'm hoping that doing the "dechroming" and stripping of the interior and pretty much anything i can remove myself will save money, as well as the fact that I will enjoy doing it.
