Does anyone know what is involved in geting a dealer plate??
Like are there any special licences you need or business papers saying that you are a registered car dealer? How would insurance work for it?
I'm going to need one sooner or later so if anyone can help, it would be great!!

you have to go and write the OMVIC course, u pass than they send u papers, basically u have to be a lot dealer or wholesale dealer. insurance is covered on the car your driving with the plate. have to warn you, not cheap at all!
$300 for OMVIC course, $500 new business , $375 compansation fund, depending on drivers record for the plates $5000-10000 /year (dont quote me on last thing, im not there yet, but have heard from alot of other people)

Ya, I'm located out in the "boons", about 2.5hrs from Toronto. Tractors driving everywhere!
I guess maybe I'll just stick to truck and trailer.

it might be worth looking into for you then, over here i can get a D plate for under 2k, i think its actually in the 1300 range with a rural address.
If its in the city of Winnipeg, you need to have a commercial lot, be bonded and after all that it costs 5k + a year from what i recall. A lot of red tape in the city!

OMVIC registration is $500, then tuition for the OMVIC certification is $190, and it is an online course through the Canadian Automotive Institute - but you have to make sure you're eligible first though. Compensation fund is $345. If you want someone else involved in your "dealership" it's $175 per additional person for the registration. All that is on the OMVIC website.
The plates themselves are $30 inititially, then $13 per month... Check the MTO website.
Then there is insurance.... That's often the showstopper...
