CALGARY MEET: May 14 2005, @ 2pm

Starting real early this year so we can have the BEST ever!

Day: May 14 2005.

Time: 2:00 pm

Place: North Glenmore Park

I will Bring a BBQ, Hot Dogs, marshmallows and pop. Anybody would like to bring anything else, go hard! There is also BBQ pits there so if you want to be hick enough, ill give wieners out for that. Make me spend at least $100. i want to see lots of us out there! If people are concerned about getting a city permit to do this in a park, it is not needed.. we'll just have to fight for parkin Attached is the location. The poll can be posted more than once if you can go on more than one weekend. I've also expanded this to our RX-8 friends.

I say later in May, the gravel will be gone by then. This sounds like a good plan! The budget minded and time contrained can join because it's close & cheap, then a cruise afterwards would be great as well for those who wanna drive. Count me in!

On May 27-29 some people from BC are planning a big meet in Kelona, its a bit of a strech, but it could work if anyone wants to go and meet some new guys. There aren't any details right now but they will come. Anyone interested?

Sean, I think I have a lighter spring we can try. Work on replacing the distributor bolt, then we'll adjust the timing split between leading and trailing.

any suggestions to get out that bolt? I think a little bit is sticking out so maybe we can get plyers around it or something. I really dont know.

Can we just remove the spring? I might be going to a shop today or tomorrow and I'll get a different cam and spring maybe.......

Sounds good on the surface, but experience has proven that the farther people have to drive and the more time is involved the fewer people who turn out.

The problem is time and money: Many can't get the necessary time off, even with adequate notice. And the very fact that 1st and 2nd gen RX7s are affordable even to those who are students means that many owners of these cars (there are considerably fewer 3rd gens) don't have much in the way of funds. Three tanks of gas + food at restaurants + hotel rooms + lost time from work = a net loss of between $200 and $400--- a lot of money for a kid sharing an apartment with room mates at $400 each and having a hard time scraping even that much together.

We planned an Alberta meet two summers ago for Red Deer and Sylvan Lake, thinking the central location would bring members from both Calgary and Edmonton. A total of FIVE cars showed up. This was in spite of over two months' notice.

The most successful meets tend to be local ones: Somewhere in Calgary at a specific location on a Sunday, which is a day off for most people. Saturdays suck because too many have jobs to go to on that day. This could be followed by a cruise afterward. Ed's idea of a cruise to Kananaskis sounds like the best idea so far. Only consumes one tank of gas and the scenery is 2nd to none. Lots of stops along the way are possible as well, and those pressed for time can at least join us for part of the cruise.

Count me in. But we need to nail down a date because it's impossible to get everyone to agree on a specific day. A rain date should also be selected.

Ya a backup plan is always good. Kananaskis sounds awesome. Senery would prove awesome for photos. I volunteer to film the experience with my DVD-CAM That I've been itching to get some real use out of.

I saw a white TII on John Laurie today, was that anyones?
Ya, that kelowna trip is too far for me most likely, I'm a student and it would cost alot. But when I get my car I'll start going to more and more. I might have to share a passenger seat with someone if there is an opening for the mean time. I'd love to come to a meet

A joint meet would be a good Idea, that way we are garunteed a large crowd. Just because the cars are different doesn't mean we can't use some tips. And Swapping stories would be grand.

I say bring the masses. Mazda Madness.

I just came back from Kelowna last night, there are alot of Rx-7s out there for a 100,000 person city, I saw 5 or 6 on monday and another 4 or 5 the next day, most in good shape, a really butchered v-8 converted s5 that was so nose heavy a pathfinder out cornered it down the hill to the bridge...Saw the mintest gold coloured SA I have ever seen, it was like show room new, but alot of s5's out there mostly n/a, but one red turbo s5 was parked in westbank at the "mall"...
I would love to drive to Kelowna for a meet, but don't know if I could swing the time off at that time..max

Yeah, let's. With any luck we can convince them to get true religion and convert their MX6s to rotary power.

Not sure if I can make that one since by then I hope to be working on airplanes for a living (having graduated from SAIT by the end of April), and therefore I have no idea what shift I'll be on, or if I'll even have that weekend off.

However, I've just posted a new thread on the BC RX7 forum in the Okanagan section inviting them to our meet in May.

What the hell, go for it. I've had my 1st gen, which has the equivalent of 240,000 kilometers on the odometer (that I know of anyway), to Vancouver and back numerous times. No problems except for a flat tire. The aged and crumbling space-saver spare took me from Revelstoke to Vancouver on that trip.
