MB Blew my engine this morning

Hey guys, just blew my engine this morning with my son on the way home from meeting with the church. I was in second gear WOT and boom/black puff of smoke. After this I barely had enough power to drive the car home. The engine would shake the car under acceleration, and the acceleration was very slow and unable to build any boost. Got home, let her cool down, and started the tear down. The turbos have oil sitting in them, and the upper intake manifold had a lot of oil pooled in there. I had a silencer in my exhaust so I was able to catch pieces. The car is a 93 Touring. Here's a photo of the pieces I caught. The one piece looks like a part of an apex seal. The engine was old and needed a rebuild anyways, to bad it didn't wait until this coming fall.

I am considering leaving it apart for a while and build it into a 20b, but I'll see how much I want to spend on it since we have another child on the way.

Sounds like the turbo's blew imo. I'd do a simple compression test before I yanked it out just to double check. If the engine did blow, it sounds like it took out the turbo's with it though.

you can't spit metal bits through the turbo and expect it to be okay.... I blew mine a couple weeks ago looking in at the turbine wheel the blades looked okay, once i took off the compressor housing there was about 5mm missing off the blades

Anything is for sale for the right price lol. But I don't plan on getting rid of my car.

I might get my turbos off tonight depending on if i have time and I'll add some photos of their condition.

Its been a while. Finally got back to work on my car. Being in the military with a pregnant wife can use a lot of your time, but its all good. I pulled the engine, yanked the turbos, and ...... the rear rotor is blown!!! There was a couple missing apex seals from looking through the exhaust port and a bunch of damage. I am not going 20b this time around.
