As some of you know I blew my turbo on the weekend. Stupid Precision turbo didn't like running without a blow off valve... Anyway, I think the compressor started hitting the compressor housing and it sent some pieces down the intake. I can see the compressor is worn on the sides. Car is pulling less vacuum and I had to turn the idle screw a lot to get it to idle. So unless the extra backpressure could affect it this much, the motor has to come out >_>. I still haven't had time to do a compression test to be sure but I'm pretty sure on the outcome.

Now I'm left with 2 choices, rebuild it and get another turbo for the season. Or I can part out everything and start on my 20b project early. I had planned to go 20b this winter already but I wanted to run my new setup this year. Downside about going 20b now is that it probably won't be ready for this season so I wouldn't have my car until next year . What to do lol...

On side note, anyone know where there's a C or D series 20b lying around LOL.

If it was me I would just go and do that 20B and not spend anymore running the 13B. (since your already going the 20B route).

miss one season and spend more in the long run or spend less and have some extra time to get the 20b installed (you know its going to take longer than planned). if it were me, i'd pull the 13b and see how bad it is, then probably part out the setup and start working towards the 20b.

You should go 20B.

 

Go for the 20B if you can find one. I would go nuts with a part-out till you find a C or D in good running order or are you planning on rebuilding that as well.

 

I'm with everyone else. While it sucks to miss the season if your engine is toast you will be missing a portion of the season regardless.

Obviously do a compression test to make sure though.

I shouldn't but I might be interested in a few parts if it comes down to it. Hit me up when you know for sure if tthe engine is good or bad.

 

do you still have the rx8? use that for the season while you are building the FD....or borrow the gtr.

 

Check with Japan Direct Japanese, last time I was looking they had a 20b off from a Eunos Cosmo, not sure if it's a C or D series.

 

I'm with everyone else. Take this season off and use the extra time to really do a good job of the 20B swap. Make sure it's perfect. You still have your RHD FD right? Track it a little bit for what it is. That would be more fun than the Rx8 on the track I'm sure.

The LS series engines will make 400-600 HP and last years, a 800HP rotary will last hours if that lol. After watching the V8 RX7 lapping at the SRTA day, that would be my next choice for 1/4 of the cost lol. Just my opinion lol

 

Good news, I did a compression test and it seems to be good . Guess it still doesn't wanna retire with 5x,xxx km on the motor. Although, now its got me thinking to start the 20b early regardless cause I still don't wanna spend money on another turbo >_>.

Al, why do you think an 800 rwhp rotary would be that unreliable? I already know the modifications I need to do to it to make it last there and if anyone can do it properly, its me :P. Mainly, the center bearing needs more oil, motor needs to be pinned, and rear housing needs some extra coolant around the spark plugs. I'm doing everything myself with this build including building the motor. The only part I am unable to do is mount the motor and build the manifold/exhaust so I will have others do that for me. Goopy actually wants to work with me to build a 1,000 rwhp motor but I don't want to run a huge *** turbo. It's a 20b, it shouldn't be laggy LOL. But it is tempting though...

Keep the 13B really the 20B is a cool idea but in actuality it's a lot of headaches and heartaches and I think you're being a bit optimistic if you think you'll having it running tip top like you do with a 13B by next season. You're going to be doing a lot of trial and error just shoe horning that thing in there. I think you have a great car the way it sits other than the blown turbo obviously. Unless you have a kick *** N/A ITB 20B I personally wouldn't do it. But like everyone already knows you know what you're doing. I just personally think the 20B idea isn't worth the benefits you get over the 13B. In the end it's your decision most guys are just giving you the ok so they can't giggle like school girls when you pop the hood.

drezjdmrx7, I hear yah. But I really am bored of the 13b. I get to drive everyone elses RX-7 and my car is only slightly faster then some. I really got it maxed atm as far as a road coarse car goes. To get more out of it, I would have to go big turbo and big porting which then wouldn't be fun or would make it less streetable.

I know most think I might not have it going off the bat but really i know 100% of what I need to make it a turnkey operation. I was originally going to just get the Defined Autowerks subframe kit but then decided I want to keep the longer 20b runners for torque as well as lower the engine and push it back so I'm doing a custom mounting of the engine. I also want my turbo in a very specific spot so I'm getting a custom manifold setup done as well.The only possible problem I foresee with the engine is if I have to upgrade my rad which I'd rather not mess with my v-mount if I can avoid it.
