Anyone know where to get urethane bar stock?
Hello girls and boys,
I thought I'd ask this here because you're a pretty resourceful bunch. I'm looking to get ahold of some urethane bar stock, about 3" in diameter, and about 6" in length, in the highest hardness possible. I'm going to make solid engine mounts for my car and this is the material I need.
Does anyone know where one would obtain this item in and around the Mississauga area?
Thanks.

I've dealt with them in the past at one of my co-op jobs. They've got a location in Waterloo (have no idea how far away, but they should be able to ship it to you). They don't list Urethane, but they've got all sorts of other plastics and such. I'm not really aware of any "bar stock" of urethane, I'm pretty sure it's mostly moulded to shape, because it'd be hard to work due to the softness of it. Besides, if it's just for a puck style mount, it might not be tough enough and it could split.
Hockey pucks are popular for use as engine mounts.

Yeah I used hockey pucks and they don't really hold up for that long. I'm looking for something that will last a little longer then a year.
Thanks for the link, I'll check it out!

dont use urthane.
Find UHMW rod stock (ultra high molecular weight), or if you want to spend a bit more for a stronger plastic look for Delrin Rod Stock, most likley if they have UHMW they will have Delrin.
DO NOT go to a machine shop and ask. They wanted 20 bucks per cubic inch. you can get it off the internet for 20 bucks a foot x 2"

Thanks!
I was uncertain as to what exact material I needed, but that UHMW material or Delrin rod sounds like it'll do! I have a semi-soft urethane in there now, and the mounts just sagged under the weight of the engine.
Do you have a link on the internet that sells it? Or does Warehoused Plastic Sales sell the stuff as well?

I've been to the Warehoused Plastics on Steeles and Tomken in Brampton. The guys I've dealt with there were pretty cool (biker mags out front), so if you tell them if you could raid they're off-cut delrin pile, they might cut you a deal. They can do some cool things with lexan too.
