Any rotory rebuilder in, Montana, ND, Sask, MB AB?

Help, i seem to be in a rotary dead zone. I'm in SK Canada, and I'm planning to rebuild soon. The can can still make it around, but I'm looking for options.

All you west coasters, I would consider up to BC and washington, but if gas is going to cost me a ton, I would consider just buying one of the fine rebuilders in the US and just pull the thing myself.
I want to get this done before May, as I heard Steve Kan might be coming up here.

edmonton has a long time rotory builder.he owns 4cruzin and his name is conroy.that would be my first choice for a builder in alberta, then it would be rx7 specialties in calgary.

rx-7 specialties in calgary always seemed sketchy to me, I talked to them a few times on the phone and he was really trying to push me to buy used crap I didn't need, for more money than the new parts were worth.

If you're considering pulling the engine yourself, and assuming timing/tools/ability allow, you should definitely consider rebuilding the engine yourself. There's nothing more rewarding to an RX7 enthusiast than rebuilding his/her own engine. If you're ready to do the labour, you could use your funds toward all new OEM seals, bearings and new rotor housings. Even if the build costs you a bit more, you're still ahead of the game in terms of the value of what's gone into the engine. Spend your time cleaning, inspecting, measuring and take your time planning the reassembly process and sequence.

Adam at Rx7specialties has always treated me well. I sold an engine he built for me because I wanted to go with a bridgeport, and another local builder offered me a deal on his i couldn't pass up. The motor blew up and the builder wasn't prompt to stand behind it (he had a lot of personal obligations at the time). I heard Adam was choked that I sold his engine and went with a known nemesis but I called him anyway. He dropped "everything" when I took the motor over to diagnose the failure. A teardown was done within a day and I was able to give my builder a diagnosis. Adam didn't care who did the repair, take it to the other builder and pay Adam nothing, or work something out with him. The previous builder donated a (controversial) pair of TII rotors and I had Adam do the rebuild. I got many parts at cost and a hell of a deal on the labor, and he had the motor ready on time (2 weeks). He will stay until midnight to complete a build rather than fail to meet a deadline. Then, the motor failed again. Adam came out the point of failure on his time on a saturday afternoon, compression tester and tools in hand for a diagnosis. Adam warned that the previous porting looked a little thin on the bridgeport, but I chose to gamble. The Fu%$ing bridge "snapped" off completely and went through the motor, couldn't really blame Adam. Sooooo, another rebuild. As a tribute to the support I have often given to others in the Rx7 community I was fortunate enough to receive a donated rotor and 2 great endplates from a fellow member. Adam donated almost all the parts and most of the labor. I went on the side of caution this time and returned to a streetport. My net cost on this rebuild is truly too low to mention and once again the build was complete in 2 weeks as promised. I call Adam from time to time to chat, and sometimes for an hour. I drop by and visit him and his staff and am welcome anytime. Lots will knock Adam, but I don't think anyone builds the quantity of engines he does. This is not to slight other builders though, never heard a bad thing about Jim in Ontario or Staff's in BC .

I gotta add that when Adam came out to check my engine I told him "I thought" a apex seal failed. He told me if his seals failed he would cover everything, parts and all. It was a shock to find the bridge missing. Adam didn't touch any of the porting the rebuild when he did it.

I was in the same situation as you. Out in Halifax there is nobody who can work on these things.
Once you are putting something on a pallet and shipping it, it isn't much more expensive to send it a bit farther. So, since I was going to have to ship anyway, I didn't settle for whoever was closest (since nobody was really close) and I dealt with who I wanted to do business with.
I went with RPM and I'm very happy with the experience. Shipping was more reasonable than you would suspect as well. (Ground freight for my engine, a transmission and another set of housings on a pallet was about $150, and I got it in 3 or 4 days.)

Holy Fawk!!!!! I don't even know where to start with that. I was going to post a big long reply to that but it aint worth it here, we won't be allowed to discuss the topic openly.

So here I started a thread 84stock, please feel free to explain there exactly what happened to your motors, I think there was some specifics you left out.

You can find my response to this over there. I hold no grudges to anyone. The original builder was willing to help me out but not in "my" desired timeframe. If I felt the port failure was due to the original builder I would have clearly said so and asked him to back up his work again. All I am trying to say is Adam did a great job for me and provided a referral.

Thanks for all you input guys, and holding back name bashing too much, however these debates come up everytime builders come up anyways.
So basically in calgary>> rx7 specialties
edmonton>> 4cruzn conroy
ontario>>RPM
BC>> staff's
If i do take out the thing myself I feel that I would be more likely to ship it out than rebuild it myself. I know my limits.

staffs isn't the only shop in BC, we also have my father inlaw trained at tekkem factory mazda engine builders set here from japan back in the day. we also have forcefed racing as well. However we all have our own people we like to go to. I personally build my own engines as my father inlaw taught me. I have sold my first build to a guy on vancouver island, a 12 1/2 bridge. now i'm running a 13b-pp in my drag car, which 84stock has seen and heard in person. I say build the damn engine your self you will feel better about saying i built it. if it fails then you can't blame anyone but yourself

Rebuilding on your own seems like not a bad idea, but failing sucks...
