I'm pretty sure there's a few in Vernon and the Okanagan - my brother sent me some pics of a JDM he drove there a couple months ago - unless it happened to be yours. I have family in Vernon, Armstrong, and Kelowna. Besides having vacationed out there for at least 35 years, we spend a lot of time visiting - and I assume by rip through Kelowna, you mean crawl, unless you plan on doing your ripping between 11pm and 5 am - lol.

For some reason, your post looking for the elusive FDs that I'm sure are out there, and yet like everywhere else, are rarely seen, made me think of the Canadian Wildlife Service's classic "Hinterland Who's Who" tv spots....

cue: haunting flute music. A loon calls in the distance

Scene: fade in a mountain lake at dawn - a twisting ribbon of asphalt running alongside.

Somber narrator: "This is an example of what is believed by experts to be the natural habitat of a rarely seen species. At one time widely known, respected, and even honoured by the inhabitants of this land, it is now known first hand to only a few. The 3rd gen RX-7, Rotorus Maximus, commonly called the FD, is known for it's uncommon agility, beauty, power, and grace. And yet though it seemed evolved to dominate environments such as this, and roadcourses, it is seldom found here anymore...."

Quick cut to archival footage of an FD on a track, surging past other cars.

Return to mountain lake, camera pans to a home on a hillside overlooking twisty road and lake. Garage door rises. A man pulls back the cover from a gleaming red FD. He carefully chamois off lint left by the cover...

Narrator: "Sadly, most FD's are now only seen in captivity, in climate controlled garages, away from extremes of heat and cold, harsh sunlight and rain. Occasionally, when conditions are just right, dry, but not too hot or cold, they may still be spotted by patient and keen-eyed observers. Even more rarely, these marvelous creatures may gather in small packs, and the truly lucky watcher may see them unleash their fury on the open road, before they retreat once again to their dens, from which they may not emerge again for weeks or months at a time. Meanwhile, their natural habitat is increasingly encroached upon by man, as suburbs and traffic congestion choke the byways that give RX-7's life..."

Man stands in doorway of garage, scans the sky. A cloud is spotted. He draws back the cover over the RX-7. He gets in his Mazda 5 and pulls quietly out of the garage, down the drive, and onto the ribbon of asphalt.

Narrator: "For more information on the FD RX-7, and how you may be able to help reintroduce it back into the Canadian wilds, please contact the Canadian Wildlife Service in Ottawa.

"Hinterland Who's Who"

I think I heard a Loon the last time I saw an FD on the open road.
Good Story > I wouldn't want to own one if I didn't have a garage.
Thats why I drive an FC. j/k. Plus I like eating everyday.

I've seen a couple around Kamloops in the past, a dark green (I think) one and a yellow one that was a feature car in SCC some years ago.

I honestly don't think I saw an FD on the road this year, in a city of over a million people. I did see exactly 1 on track, when I was in Vancouver for Canadian Autoslalom Championship, and I was the only other RX-7 of any vintage competing there. I did see a black JDM at a mall meet we had early this year, but didn't see it actually driving, tho' I suppose since I saw it somewhere other than in a garage, it should count. By contrast, I remember at least one occasion where I saw 3 different late model Ferraris, not together, in the same afternoon. But I know they're here in Calgary, and it seems there are confirmed sightings in the Okanagan. So at least they're a step up from sasquatch on the mythological creatures scale
