Another good and bad day at the track...

The good...well, spent the day at Dunnville with Raven.

The bad...car no workie now.

The good...At least I'm not stranded somewhere....car was fine right up till I pulled up to my driveway then it wouldn't idle, sputtered and stalled.

The bad...now I have to sift through the archives trying to figure it out. Sucks since I'm a rotary noob. It sounds like a fuel or ignition issue...

The worse...scheduled to be at Mosport Tuesday and Wednesday but I guess it's not going to happen.

Edit: checked for ignition by pulling a plug wire and turning it over...I do have ignition...and spark really f'in hurts.

Not that anyone cars, but WOOHOO! Got the car started this morning...did everything by the book - checked spark, fuel, compression and all were good. Plugs were soaked with fuel so I unflooded by pouring oil into the plug holes...fired it up and it started with a big smoke show. This must be some kind of rotary rite of passage.

Wish I had some idea of what the root cause of the car stalling was though.

Leaky injectors.

If the injectors are old and possibly worn out, then they will leak and cause the car to flood at idle or after running for a short time. Or its some some vacume leak....

Yep, get the injectors cleaned and new seals. What I have also found is that the rubber grommets between the injector and the manifold turn to stone over time and become a strong and intermittent vacuum leak. As well the clean injectors will stop leaking and flooding the engine. As well they provide better throttle response and more power.

Get them cleaned before you dot another "I" or cross another "T" and I expect you will cure your hard starting issues. It cured mine.

Send them to Dal's Turbos in Mississauga. $25 per injector and they are usually done within a day but they usually want you to re-install them right away for warranty purposes.

Thanks guys, made it through 2 more days at Mosport in the current state and all was good. I'll give Dal's turbos a call tomorrow and get the injectors taken care of before my next time.

Thanks to the one called IAN for helping a non-mechanically inclined IT nerd pull his injectors.

IAN, if you ever need help with a Cisco IP communications system, router, or switch, I'm your man.

Woohoo, got the car back together and it lives! No extra bits leftover either...except for a mystery connector which has now been identified as the BAC connector. D'oh!

Car is running much smoother - startup is quieter and the slight hesitation I used to have when squeezing from half throttle to WOT is gone!

Thumbs up to Dal's Markham location - Superior Fuel Injection - for the fast turnaround and great service.

I spoke too soon...I heard and smelled a fuel leak so I took everything apart again and found that I tore an o-ring from a primary injector. Guess I didn't lube it up enough. On the plus side, I'm getting pretty fast at taking it all apart.
