Taxes..Grocery Bags??
Holy Hell..Watchin the news For Vancouver. They want to Tax Grocery Bags!!.Bags will cost 25 Cents A piece at the Checkout...Like one woman responded.."It's bad enough they tax the food!NOW they want to Tax what you put the Food Into to Take it out of the store?..Who comes up with this Crap?..
One more sign that this damn province is ruled by people who'd rather "Give mother nature a hug" than actually put thought into fixing problems. We already pay for grocery bags at the equivalent of Loblaws.

We pay a nickel a bag at one store right now.Boxes they have are free.Just a way to get you to use less plastic...my opinion...drink water from the tap in a friggin glass!..There!..just saved on plastic!..I'm cranky Tonight!..low fat this!..suagr free That..Christ.when I grew up you were gettin sugar directly from Straws(pixie stix!)..and if the Hamburger wasn't Greasy and OOZING Fat,and Eggs weren't cooked in Bacon Fat,you were not Eating right!..(I feel better now..wrap it in plastic..it's done!)
I have no problem with that.
I have lived in areas of Europe where they have been doing that for years. Think about how many plastic bags some of us have stowed away in our kitchen cupboards. Just bring those with you, or get some special 'shopping bags'...they do that in Europe too.
Sure, in our culture of convenience that may be a bit of a nuisance, but so is non-biodegradable plastic.

I don't have a problem with the grocery stores charging money for the bags. They buy them, produce them and it is their product in them. That's fine. But there is no need to introduce a provincial tax on the things. Once it becomes a tax, there needs to be a governmental agency who oversees the taxation process, or that responsability will be given to an existing agency. Either way it means the associated costs go up. Fine, charge us for the bags, but don't introduce a new level of governance to police it. It is unecessary.
If you want to spend money on an environmental issue, get corporations and indusries to start recycing paper products. The amount of plastic bags thrown away each year pales in comparisson to the amount of paper/boxes/plastic thrown away by companies!

Maybe we should compile a list of things that there is no tax on. Its growing short these days. Pretty soon they will be putting prices on humans to tax them. The slave trade will start all over again....
