Between the vignetting, the sound track, the style and zooming displays at the end it looks a lot like this video doesn't it? I'm very close friends with James (the creator), I don't think he would appreciate whoever made that video copying his style.

Of course, art is always subjective and one could argue that the two videos have nothing in common (kind of like battle royale and hunger games) but it feels like its more than just a coincidence no?

Not to clear on your accusations Alan, you guys actually think someone copied James’s style of doing a video? By the way he does do excellent work.....some of the best I’ve seen. For what it’s worth CSCS does a great job putting on their events and promoting them, I know them personally and I can be say without a dough that your comments are not correct in any way.....over.

Absolutely agree that cscs runs an amazing event, arguably the most successful in Canada. I've been and enjoy their events and certainly plan on doing more in the future once either my car goes full track and I trailer my car or if the MTO stop pulling over everyone on the way to their events. CSCS has put out amazing and professionally developed event coverage videos in the past, I was just surprised to see such a high class and high profile event organizer put out a promo video that looked like a copy of James's video except with new video clips from the cscs event.

In any case, I personally wasn't the creator therefore I don't have a vested interest in the video. I do think that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and it clearly demonstrates how amazing James's artistic abilities are. I wouldn't call the CSCS video totally original but it was still very well made and certainly does do a great job in promoting the event and it had some amazing shots (I loved the shot of the drag car taking off). Great video in the end and I look forward to more like it. Hopefully they get that MTO bullshit sorted out so that I can start driving my car to their events.

What are you guys talking about copying? Do you realize how many videos are like that if you look outside local stuff lol. It's more of a trend, rather then a copy rofl.

We'll just stop making videos now, no worries :P

Also, I might as well take my volks off my rx7 and my bbs wheels off my bmw. Don't wanna copy anybody or anything...

on a serious note, for the cscs participants, do you prefer this style of video over the one's we did last years or last years "tv-style"?

Let me know so I can push for a certain direction!

Alan, the style if anything I would say is "youtube/vimeo" - lots of cuts, not long in length, something today's ADD culture will actually watch.

I like the video, I think it's definitely in the right direction. I remember some old videos from casc that were pretty dry and painful to watch, lots of interviews and stuff, really wasn't well done.

Keep at it, good promo videos go a long way to promote the sport. I'll be looking forward to more videos in the future. Track shots tend to all be about the same anyways (either a flyby from outside or a interior shot from inside). It's getting harder and harder to stay original so my bad for pointing out all of the similarities.

Next up: high speed cameras and aerial videos from a quadcopter

And while we are being all bitchy and stuff, Time Attack is not racing. It is timed lapping. Until you are wheel to wheel going all gung ho for a set time period or number of laps, its not racing. Just a personal gripe that sticks in my craw even more than supposed coping of a video style that you can see 800 other places on the internet or TV.

I like Time Attack and I applaud those of you who do it and some of you are stinky fast, but it isn't the same at all. When you are racing, it is assumed you know your way around the track and now you have to figure out how to get by the guy in front of you who is in a similar classed car. My big issue with CSCS is that all modded cars get lumped into the same class. I have to run my 180 whp 2450 lb car in the same class as Andoru, JDK, Marco and whoever else shows up with 400 hp 2800 lb monsters. All of them have at least 50% - 100% more hp with only a few hundred more pounds of weight. For example, the Krikorian's Subaru is about 4 to 5 classes up on my car in CASC Road Racing, but in CSCS we are in the same class. Not very motivating to bring my car out so that I can get stomped. I will come out, but only for the testing portion beforehand.

Now enough griping from a guy who was doing Time Attack in the early 80's and oh yeah..... GET OFF MY LAWN! LOL.

Marco, thats awesome! You have the talent and the brains. I would love it to see you come out and perform for an hour at a time. You could really kick some *** and learn a few things as well about racecraft.

Let me know if I can help.

Eric, what event you thinking of coming out to?

Also, to address your concerns: that's the point. Anyone can register, anyone can sign up, anyone can "race" - our whole philosophy when it started was to get people off the streets, specifically us young'ins. The main difference with CSCS more than anything else is the atmosphere. Case in point: Sasha. He wrote in an article that he was more excited when he broke the CSCS track record at TMP than when he won CCTC. There's no pips, no bs protests, no politics. It's just driving the car you built (or your shop built) as fast as you can.

If there was a series where people could race cars (or karts even) wheel to wheel for a lowered cost I'm sure many of us would do it. We just cant afford to enter CCTC. Personally, I would love to race Formula Fords

I was originally thinking of coming out for the June 2nd event at TMP. I really like the inclusive feel of the whole CSCS event, how easy it is to get on track and how it becomes a place to be. All I was just saying is that it isn't racing per se.

Sasha is a special case in point. He is a very good driver who loves to win and go fast. It was more than likely harder for him to rip off that lap at TMP than to win in CTCC as he was competing against some very stout equipment in CSCS. The main difference is that in all sanctioned road racing, there are classes roughly based on prep levels or power to weight. Sasha's Nissan is a not fully maximized to the potential of the rules, so for him to get to the track record, it required him to pull something special out of himself to get there.

For me, I like to compete against like cars at a certain prep level. My car is in the same class as Sasha's car even though his is lighter and has double the horsepower. I could drop a ton on my car and go after him, but it would mean that it isn't competitive and reliable enough to race it any more. To double duty an RX7 like that would mean replacing the rotary with an LSx motor and replacing most of the drivetrain. Before everybody gets all crazy, I have yet to see anyone build a turbo rotary that could win a 1 to 3 hour race at Mosport and have it live. NA rotaries just don't have the grunt to do the job either without building an 11,000 rpm pp and they are hand grenades.

What I may do is come out for the September 22nd event at TMP and bring my Cougar and go for the Unlimited FWD Class. It could be fun. It has 300 hp and weighs about 2300 lbs.

Also, regarding going racing, I have been looking around to try to develop a co-driver to run with me in the GT Challenge for about a year without any success. I have all the equipment in the world and the experience, but most of the guys I start working with aren't ready or able to put in the effort involved to go racing. It isn't that much more than Time Attack, but the effort and knowledge, experience and commitment required is and most guys just aren't there when it comes time.

As well, you have to be able to handle going fast for at least 20 minutes at a time where every lap and every corner is critical, not just one lap. That is the difference. I love the fact that things like CASC Time Attack, Sigma and CSCS exist foryou guys now. Ehen I started there was nothing available for street cars and it was all in or nothing. These are great proving grounds to measure yourself.

Other than the similar soundtracks those video's are not a ripoff of each other.

That would be like saying I, Robot and Terminator are ripoffs of each other because they both have robots and explosions in them.

Eric, your too hard on your car. Its not the underpowered tank that you think it is.

Sasha's 350z weighs in at 2900lbs....

A very famous man once said "Add Lightness". Making big power sure doesn't make a car go around a racetrack faster, especially a small track like TMP.
