Thumbs up

I'm going to head down for DGRR 2008, with my Silver FD and my buddy is going to come with his Rx8. But we're only going down for the weekend, leaving T.O Thursday night drive back Sunday.

I was planning on leaving on a Thursday. Is that to early for everyone? Would like to be there for friday night dinner.

I guess we need to figure out the day we are leaving such that we can cruise with the majority down. As long as its not a super long day!

it's like a 10 hour drive from here.

if we reach the windsor/detroit border at 5AM, we'd be there by 5PM easily including stops and taking it easy on the way down.

that would have you leaving kingston about 11PM-midnight, depending on how fast you drive. Toronto traffic at 2AM basically doesn't exist, so you shouldn't have any delays there.

Yea im not sure when to leave...

by "april 11-13" do they mean that friday during the day there is stuff going on? Or that we have to be there for that night?

Guess I should ask in the DGRR info threads............

But if we are all in London leaving early thursday morning I think that should work. If need be people (Ian, thewird) can stay at my place the night before and then we leave from there for London early thurs. morning. Whatever we gotta do...

I'll make a post probing about when we should be in Nanthlia (sp?) Village by....

Don't have to be in the village until apr 11th/5pm according to herblenny.

So we *could* do it friday morning through friday evening, presuming zero hold ups etc. Might actually make sense to get halfway there thursday eve/night and stay somewhere random at a motel 6 or whatever and drive the rest in the morning.

It might be neat to meet up with the RX7store guys in Columbus and cruise with even more cars from there, and we could probably do that this way. But just tossing out ideas - but now we know a time at least.

Yes. Lots of planning to do. I am pretty well open to all options. I would like to be there for dinner. And I would like to meet up with as many people as possible on the way down and leaving from canada.

thanks classicauto for offering your house to stay at. If we leave friday morning I will have to take that offer up!.

Also for booking the hotel/cabin. Would it be wrong to say those people who are 100% in are registered as well before we book the size/room?

I like this place http://www.nvnc.com/lodging_specs.php?intid=26

racerjason. You should come too!

terrh. Did you figure out what you are taking?

Hope your cars are tuned and ready

I just happened to notice this thread on the main page... then I saw it was in the Canada forum. Hardcore. I'm glad to see DGRR is attracting international attention now, I really hope you guys can make it. If you need any additional info about the area feel free to ask... I drive up there pretty frequently.

I was thinking along these lines as well, leaving after work like 5pm, and just head down, stop somewhere after Cincinnati. Drive the rest in the morning, maybe make a few runs on The Dragon before check in .

you guys should sleep after work a few hours, then head down here.

I think we should all meet up at the husky in windsor at 3AM friday, april 11.

3AM is still reaaaallly early. There won't be a delay at the border (at least not due to traffic - it'll be totally empty until nearly 6:30-7AM)
Husky is about 10 minutes from the bridge, and the bridge connects to 75.

I'm open for taking whatever route seems like the most fun between there and here, but we should probably stick to 75 till at least the MI-OH border.

Another option (if you guys want to) is a few people, like 5 max, can spend the night at my place. My neighbour is used to my loudass car leaving or arriving at 2-3AM and I'm sure a few people with loud cars wouldn't be much issue.

I'll be taking the GTR. It will be ready.

For me I would rather not rush and feel like *** on friday night because I have been up since 3am. I must be getting old. (But majority vote will do)

I'm with IAN on this, I would rather leave Thursday, stop somewhere and get some sleep. Then be refreshed for Friday and drive the rest of the way.

The 75 is only boring until Kentucky, and it's dead flat until then so that will help with conserving gas (as best a rotary can). After the KY state line there are some great hills, and its 70 MPH. Then theres a 6 mile climb up and then down a mountain just inside the Tennesee state line, before hitting Knoxville. I only recommended the 75 because it's a route I drive alot so I know where almost all the truckstops and rest areas are, and it would be really hard (I mean you have to be STUPID) to get lost.

And yes I am 100% IN. My car will be ready or on the outside chance that it can't be, then I won't start working on it until I get back. Also as long as no one is ******* around we shouldn't have any problems with the state troopers. But again, that was just a suggestion, since alot of us live closer to the Windsor crossing. However I am more than willing to drive any route, I just want to get there and have some fun.

I think a Thursday leave would be preferred. I've done crazy **** before (this year) like Florida --> Chicago --> 8 hour stay at a datacenter fixing servers --> departed for Toronto, 2 hours later felt so bad pulled over and took a 2 hour nap Keisuke style --> drank half a liter of McDonalds coffee and made the rest of the trip back to Toronto. You really feel like *** after driving so long without sleeping.

So basically Thursday + nap would be preferred but If you guys wanna do Friday I can do it too hehe.

I'd much rather leave super early friday.. realistically we could leave windsor as late as like 7AM and still have a ton of time to get there for 5PM. (at 120km/h, it's 8.5 hours)

It would be better to not do it all in 1 go, and have time for rest stops/etc so we aren't tired, which involves leaving earlier...

like I said before, if people want to make the trek to my place thursday and spend the night here (about 45 min from the border) that's fine with me, and reduces your driving time friday.

I like that cabin Ian! Should hold all of us too....I'll book next friday!

I really don't care when we leave as long as we get there on time and don't have to hand out any money to state troopers on the way down Friday morning, thursday night - doesn't matter to me.

I can see a vote coming. We can plan that by the end of feb I guess.

I doubt that we can get there even close to 8.5 hours let alone 10. What about stops. Driving through small towns. Frequent rx7 fuel stops? I'm going to have to look this up all on mapquest.
