1998 Mazda RX-7 RS-R 30th Anniversary RE Edition Resurrection (Street Build)

Whats up rotary brothers, so I imported this car last year and it arrived in June, so I am fairly new to the rotary scene so any help would be greatly appreciated. I got the car on the road last month and after driving it for couple of weeks the engine started shaking like crazy while idling, so i took it to Marco(AKA thewird) to do a compression test, and turned out that one of the apex seals for the rear rotar was broken. since rebuild is in order I decided to go all out on it. Marco helped me put a list of parts for the build which i started ordering last week. I always wanted a fast good looking street car and this is it, the plan is to get between 500hp to 550hp and get the fastest response with the turbo i am ordering. I haven't decided if i want the street port or bridge port yet but i am 80% bridge port we shall see.

Parts:

Engine:
thewird 1- Adaptronic Select Mazda RX-7 ECU 87-95
thewird 2- CJ Motorsports kit
thewird 3- CJ Motorsports Twin Pump
TE 4- Turblown Enginnering EFR 8374 Turbo Kit
Ordered RX7 Store 5- RX7 Store V Mount Intercooler / Radiator Setup 93+ RX-7
Ordered ShakeBomb 6- FD3S: DUAL OIL COOLER UPGRADE KIT
Ordered RX7 Store 7- ACT Extreme 6 Puck Clutch 93+ RX-7 Turbo
Ordered RX7 Store 8- AEM Methanol Injection Kit
Ordered RX7 Store 9- TRU-BOOST - Boost Controller Gauge
AEM 10- Water/Methanol FAILSAFE Device - 1/4" SAE
Banzai 11- UR Style FD Pulley Kit (93+RX-7)
Ordered ShakeBomb 12- Ignition upgrade (I'd suggest aem smart coil upgrade
converted to direct fire which would require an ECU like
the Adaptronic given your goal)
Ordered RX7 Store 13- Blockoff plates for going single
Banzai 14- NGK Race Spark Plugs R6725 (Heat Rage 10.5)
Xcessive 15- Xcessive13B-REW Lower Intake Manifold
Banzai 16- FD3s 3-Bar Map Sensor & Harness Adapter Kit
Banzai 17- FD3s 3-Bar Map Sensor Bracket
Banzai 18- PR FD Idler Pulley Kit (93+ RX-7)
Rotary Works 19- CNC Cut Billet Aluminum Throttle Body for RX7 FD

Body:
I ordered all these parts from Shine auto, and already received all of them Just awaiting the rebuild to start:

1- FD3S Rx7 Type-FIIR (FEED Style) Front Aero Bumper
2- 4-Piece Canard Set for Type-FIIR Bumper. Can be slightly modified to fit 99-
spec OEM Bumpers as well.
3- FD3S Rx7 Spec-GT (FEED Style) Bumper Protectors.
4- FD3S Rx7 Spec-GT (FEED Style) Front Fenders (25mm wide)
5- FD3S Rx7 Spec-GT (FEED Style) Sidesteps/Sideskirts
6- FD3S Rx7 Spec-GT (FEED Style) Rear Fenders (25mm wide)
7- FD3S RX-7 Spec-S Rear Diffuser
8- Wing: to be decided(I am looking to get a GT wing similar to the RE Amemiya)

Dang, that car looks so clean and neat just as it sits, especially with those wheels on it. I love the stance as it looks so purposeful. I would personally, hate to tear into such a clean tub to add a widebody kit on it, especially when there are a number of abused tubs laying around. But to each their own I guess. Make sure to look at the brakes and suspension as well. The mucho $$$$$ in the body kit pieces could get you some great shocks and brake components that would offer a fantastic driving experience.

Good luck with the build and welcome to the jungle.

Eric

I'm Still looking for another one for you bahahaha

Also I'm wondering if a bridgeport will be easy to drive on the street :P, gas mileage, noise and too much attention would be on the list for you.
Just do a street or large street port for the kicks Either way, it is getting louder but I hope someone with a full/half bridge can chirp in here

Thanks Eric, I completely agree with you however, the car came with the bilstein suspension which are amazing especially on corners. I am thinking of keeping them for the time being, at least till I finish the build, and as for the breaks I will definitely upgrade.

Thanks CJ, make sure it has wide brakets . yea I know the noise is the reason i am at 80% with it, i really need to hear how a bridge port sounds in person.

Very nice. Might be overkill for street driving, though.

You wont like a bridge port for the street.

A street port will get you 500whp no problem.

Keep it simple.

I'd stay away from the single throttle body setup. If you want to upgrade the throttle body, there are companies out there that bore out the stock throttle body and put bigger butterflies in it. This was what I did many years ago and am still using the same throttle body on the 20b.

Bridgeports are for idling in parking lots, or full throttle on the race track. I wouldn't do another one (I had one). Its very painful to tune well for street driving.

What? You'll have to speak up.. I can't hear you over the sound of my idling Bridge Port... (granted, it's NA)

Either way, looks like a cool build, and a very clean car. I'd leave it looking as stock as possible with a body that clean, but, that's personal taste.

A half-bridge with a conservative exhaust port would be bearable with a 1,100-1,200 rpm idle.

I think it'll still be loud I've been watching few you tube videos i think Half Bridge Ports it too loud LOL

and btw Marc, regarding the GM 3-map sensor, where can I get a genuine GM part, I heard the after market ones are inaccurate and might be harmful for the engine.

A guy locally picked up 20whp on his 2JZ setup when he went from the GM 3-bar to an OMNI 4-bar. He claimed the signal was much clearer and it made a noticeable difference at 30psi. Food for thought. For credibility purposes, this was a dyne tested 20whp difference, not a guesstimate.

2JZ uses up lots of space and youll need Nas with that.

I am not sure if you can use that with an RX7, did use it in a supra?

That is the only GM 3 bar sensor everyone in the world uses. Tuning hurts your engine, not a map sensor.

That has nothing to do with the map sensor. 30 PSi is just over the range of the GM 3 bar so he was using the wrong sensor for his application to begin with. And you should generally try to avoid running on the edge of the range of any sensor as usually that is where they get less accurate, has nothing to do with the sensor itself.
