hell yeah it could race it!

Would it beat it? maybe. It would be close, it would come down to the driving more than anything else.

In a straight line a brdigeport 12a would kick the crap out of the old 3.1 Cav, if the Cav was stock. In a corner though.... The Rx-7 would be gone, and the Cav would be a spec in the rear view.

but if its stock for stock, the cav will fair up pretty well, i think the cav is faster stock, like low 16's-high 15's, probbly less if 5 spd....

I seriously doubt a stock 3.1 Cav would crack high 15's, or even a lightly modded one for that matter - that's an engine that has decent low-end grunt, and... that's about it. Out of breath at 4500rpm. I'd guess it would be a little faster to 100km than a stock 12a, but not much. Put an decent-flowing exhaust on the 12a, and it'd be faster in the 1/4 I'd bet. Throw a few turns in, and the Cav would fall behind fast.
In daily driving, the Cav might feel faster, just because you could hit the gas with it in 4th or 5th at 1500rpm, and it would actually accelerate
