*****RX Club of Ontario First Meet Ever*****
Well the concensus has clearly shown that rotor heads in Ontario wish to unite around Mazda's domination of the rotary powered world.
If you own or appreciate rotary powered vehicles you will want to be a part of the inception of this new club.
When: Saturday April 23rd, 2005
Where: GTA location TBA (We apologize to out of towners for the GTA location but we will definately spread our wings in the future)
Agenda:
There will be a professional photographer on hand to take pictures of all vehicles in attendance individually and collectively for the creation of the RX Club of Ontario website and promotional items. (So if you have suggestions of a picturesque location for the first meet give us a holler)
We will elect a committee at our first meeting to steer the club in the path of success. If you have webmaster, promotional, managerial or mechanical skills that you would like to volunteer, come to the meet and introduce yourselves to the community you want to help build.
If you plan on attending or require further information please PM the 'RX Club of Ontario' or 'Lawyer's Spirit'.
Please use this thread to add your suggestions for how you would like to see this club evolve.
The key to our success is you, push it, pull it, drag it or bus it, but make sure you are there.
More details will follow including a club constitution and a proposed agenda for the season.
Please spread the word to other rotary forums and more importantly to those not on the forums.
It is going to be a great summer!!

This sounds like a good idea. Anymore details? ie.. President of the clubs? track days? discounts.. and such.. Also You guys can organize meets which is easier since its a club and not one person trying to get everyone together

Well this is exactly why we need to have an early meet so that we can get an idea of how many members and then approach tracks, dealers, clothing manufacturers etc.
As far as the presidency, I am at the helm until the first meet where we will decide if we want a hierarchy, or just an executive committee to make decisions. So if you are interested in being more involved come to the meet and say so. Also present your thoughts and suggestions here so people get some time to think about them.
So far we have been offered discounts on vinyl graphics, business cards, posters, webservice and photograhic services.
I spoke with Chris at CSCS yesterday and he said he will work out a group discounted rate to their summer events.
There is power in numbers, so it is great that the 8s and 7s are uniting this way to build a strong club.

Joe, I'll drive down with you. Safety in numbers... 'Course with your luck on getting pulled over, I may keep a healthy distance behind you. Lol.

I think that we're moving too fast with this meet. Electing a committee this early doesn't sound like a good idea especially with the battles between the RX8/FD/FC/FB guys.
I think we should start off with weekly meets so that people get a chance to meet each other and determine who the real enthusiasts are.

Why dont we jsut so a bi-weekly meet like every other club in Ontario..
Sataurdays are too comitted...I say have them on Wednesdays starting 7:30-8 till like 10 or eleven. Just show and shine, socialize and coffee. Its worked very well for other clubs that I have been in.

I agree with you in part but remember that it has been abit of a chore to make this get to where it is today. I initially wanted to do a small planning meet but the 8 guys are eager to get going. They were about to start ordering their cards and jackets etc. before I intervened. So we owe it to them to show up in numbers and show that we are committed to the cause.
As far as in-fighting, if we all commit to setting aside our petty differences we'll be fine. If it falls apart because people have egotistical attitudes then so be it. I wouldn't want to be a part of that type of club anyway.
So try and put your concerns aside, and be aware that I share them too and we will work it out. In fact I can see some ways that we can use the rivalry to create some non-car meets. Maybe some 8s v 7s soccer or other sporting match. It should be nothing more than sporting rivalry.
The ball is rolling and I don't want to stop it now.

wow! awesome.
I really doubt that I'll have my car running by then though without a miracle between now and then.
I will try and make it out (maybe I'll ride with CompuBob) but probably it'll have to wait till later in the summer before I can make it out.. I'm not driving 400KM (each way!) in the talon when I could spend that time working on the car!

C'mon Terrh, you don't want to spend the whole summer with your head under the hood and no-one to hang with. Take a ride with your buddy and see you there.

Have you *seen* the typical 8 owner? I don't think their nurses can push their wheelchairs fast enough for soccer. Maybe they'd prefer some 7s vs 8s bingo...

Amur, not you too, c'mon I'm trying to squash the stereotypes. Go over to the 8 site and fire those old foggies up.

Using my experience as a union branch president and working with various counsels etc., may I suggest that we appoint (rather than elect) an adhoc committee to get the ball rolling, set some goals for where people would like to see the club by say summer's end then elect a standing executive at that time subject to review at a time agreeable by the majority of the members (50% + 1).
If numbers grow quickly, then we could perhaps look at electing a representive for each area to carry ideas from local members to the executive.
Just a thought.

Sounds good, definately anything created on the 23rd will only be an interim body.
