Boosted. I got BLOWN!!!

^Good luck with that. Those old hoses may have been run through with the old wire clamps. But, you can see one of them if you are flexible enough from the driver side, looking up behind the dash. I found a sssslow leak there one day after noticing the gas pedal was slightly wet. Luckily, all i had to do was tighten the clamp. But, that's a tough area to reach and if the hose is FUBAR, it's going to take some amount of work to change those hoses. I'm not even sure you can buy them

I've been gone for a little bit, so I've been out of the loop for a while. Are you saying that EFI Analytics now has a tuning app for Droid?!! And do you have any more info on the bluetooth adapter? That would make everything SO much easier!
I'm glad to see those housings worked out for you!

Thanks Terrence! Yes the housings were a bit rough with the port job but my builder said the housing was in excellent shape. He made the port a bit larger and but I was happy overall.
EFI Analytics does not make a tuning app, they have shadow logger which just logs. They do provide a plug and play bluetooth to RS232 adapter for $60 (55 on sale right now) http://www.efianalytics.com/products...Bluetooth.html
MSDroid is a free app and more info can be found here: Megasquirt MSEXTRA / MS3EFI • MSDroid (View forum)
Here are a few screenshots from my Motorola XOOM. It is great for tuning...(so far). The only thing it cannot do is the autotune (yet).
I plan on turning the logging feature on during my track sessions and then reviewing afterwards for any anomalies that may have occured. bluetooth means I can toss it in the rear bin and let it log without worrying about the laptop sliding around or the cable popping out.

Tomorrow is the Chris Carlisi memorial event. I have everything buttoned up on the car and I think its ready to go. After packing up tonight I need to check out why my oil pressure gauge isnt reading. Besides that I think everything is good to go

So the day went fairly well. I had a chance to talk to some of the guys at the carlisi meet. It was nice to put some names to faces.
The car did well. I took some time on the drive up to tune a few things, but I think its time to get it to a professional tuner. My main issue right now is when i switch from vacuum to boost, I get a lean spot/rich spot when the BOV closes (it sits open at idle).
Half way through the day my heater core hose decided to burst at the end of a session causing a scare...I was able to cut the section off and shove the hose in. I'll have to pick up a replacement.
Other than that I spent the day monitoring temps, and having fun on the track. I would cruise on the straight aways to let it cool down, and then throw it into the corners where the fun is at . My vmount needs some work, temps got a little high and I blame that on a not-so-well-ducted system. I need to pick up a second oil cooler as well. Oil temps got up to about 210*F on the session that I pushed it the hardest. Other sessions it hovered around 200*F Coolant temps got up to about 205-207* sustained. I noticed the first few laps If I pushed it hard, the temps would come down quick on the straight away but about half way through the session they took a lot longer to drop. I assume the radiator was heat soaked and took longer for temps to drop. I am tempted to look into a bigger radiator, but want to try moving the oil cooler and better ducting first.
Yes I let the fiesta pass me... He was quick in the corners

I too have noticed an erratic lean/rich spot on the boost transition. I just started noticing it last week when I took it for a long interstate drive. I didn't even think about the blowoff valve being the issue. And I haven't had a chance to look at my tune in a while (just got back from deployment again and my friend still has my laptop charger).
Looks like it was a fun day though. Even with the tuning bugs, I'm sure you still had a blast

Welcome back from Deployment! Hope you had a warm welcome home from family and friends! I'm 90% sure its not acceleration enrichment because I'm not stabbing the throttle...but what the hell do I know. Half the stuff I've tried to do wont work (STUPID RELAY WONT TURN ON FOR THE FAN. GRRRRRR)
First time both of my turds have been both clean. Which one would you rather drive?
I like how both have the same swoop down the side.

but the 205-207* coolant temps are getting kind of high but not terrible.
You also have to remember the faster you go the more air you get through your radiator

If it's MAPdot based, then you may have acceleration enrichment issues there. If it's all TPSdot, then look elsewhere. Don't rule out ignition mapping as well, since most ignition maps drop a few degrees right there at the boost transition. Your fuel map may not be tuned with that in mind.
#313
AGreen, it is set up for TPS based. I think I need to play with it a bit more. My other issue is I need to put this S5 TPS in the car so its getting the full range..at this point in time, its not a rush though.
Eage8, I didnt think about that. I will look into those settings as well. Maybe I'll post up a video with a log.
As for last night I took a trip to the local drag strip for some fun. I forgot to bring the manual boost controller so boost is still around 8-9 PSI.
The highest MPH I had for the night was 104. lowest was 101. I'd like to get it on the dyno so I can figure out where to shift. I have contacted PF Supercars and am waiting to hear back.

copied from my post in the time slips section:
Best run of the night borrowing a set of slicks from a friend.
Mods:
Freelance motorsports built engine with polished intake, large exhaust port.
FD rotors
S4 housings
S5 irons
Megasquirt ECU (no offical tune or dyno runs yet)
BNR stage 1 turbo
RB 2.5 in downpipe, resonator and catback
NA drive train(car was originally 4 lug, swapped to 5 lug turbo setup)
Vmount intercooler (evo 8 intercooler)
kyb agx and eibach sport springs
let me know if i missed anything else or you have any questions!

Yup Just need to count my pennies and order a purple Tial MVR wastegate. The hardest part of the install will be finding a way to get coolant to the wastegate. My friend will be doing the welding for me. I gotta find some tubing as well to extend the pipe, and make a dump tube.

Well it looks like my plan isnt going to work. I had a friend selling a Holset H1C (non intercooled) turbo for $50. Problem is its very close in size to the stock turbo, well my hybrid - so its not worth building/buying a t3 manifold, and a downpipe etc etc for the small gains I'd see from it. I think the plan now is to find an HX35 turbo, or maybe something t04 so I can keep the CHRA watercooled.

I've had a lot of luck between tweaking the opening time for the second injectors and the staging table in getting rid of lean spots when transitioning to boost. For my 870/1000cc injector sizes, the smoothest transition was when jumping up to 30% staged or higher as quickly as possible to get rid of some variation in opening times vs fuel delivered.
Why is your BOV open when at part-load? Theoretically, it should only be open when post-throttle pressure is very low (<20 kPa) & pre-throttle pressure is over atmospheric (>120 kPa or higher, depending on the spring & pre-load), so that you get at least an atmosphere of pressure acting to move the BOV piston.

Hoping to have the manifold and wastegate installed tonight. Gotta pick up some hose to run coolant through the wastegate. It's not required but it says its recommended for rotary applications.
My plan is to T into the coolant for the turbo. It may not happen tonight since I'd like to replace the hose with SS braided AN fittings.
