That is pretty tricky. I ramp up the MS WAY up before, during, and after the transition, then let it fall on the next bar, WAY down when you are in boost...I have mine staged at 6 PSI, but you would want to go lower than that. Probably around 3 PSI.

I sent you a PM Bruce!

Managed to get the external wastegate installed Friday night and ran at the drag strip on Saturday. I was hoping for an empty day at the track and it was the exact opposite. I have never seen it that busy. I spent 6 hours there and got a grand total of 3 runs in. All were a terrible launch so the day was a waste. On a good note, The boost doesnt drop nearly as much. I am using a 11 lb psi spring. Boost gets up to 14.5-15 psi, (195-205KPA according to the MS) and then dropping down to around 10-11 psi, rather than the stock wastegate 6-7 psi.

Here are some photos, I'll post up the video shortly.

Wastegate tacked shut in case I ever need to reverse what was done.

Manifold on...I didnt take a photo after putting the wastegate on. I'll get one soon.

you might want to look into some heat shields... my car got so hot before I started putting heat shields on stuff that I cracked the rear secondary injector....

That is on the winter list of things to get around to. Not sure if I'm baller enough to buy the Turblown Inconel heatshield. I have met up with Scrub (FD owner) and his heatshield seemed easier to make. Basically its an aluminum plate that rides along the LIM, and has two holes at the top. Undo two of the LIM/UIM nuts, slide it on and put the nuts back on. Bam! done.

haha, I was just talking about a turbo blanket, downpipe wrap, and an exhaust manifold heat shield of some sort. mainly just add/replace what was there stock should be pretty good.

I'm thinking of wrapping the downpipe and trying to find a way to mount a heatshield. It's something that needs to be done before it gets tracked next year.

I upped the wastegate spring from 11 psi to 13 psi and now it still peaks around 14-15 psi but holds to 11 psi rather than 10! I'm considering going up to a differ spring again, but also considering moving to a 3 inch downpipe instead of the 2.5 inch.

I want a larger exhaust but dont want to give up the quietness of the RB setup. I'm thinking the RB Rev TII setup is the only way I'll achieve that.

I love my rev II exhaust. It's soooo quiet. Unless you're running an EWG, it'll be a quiet ride.

It is something I'd like to purchase but right now I dont think it will happen due to cost. I need to put away money to put a down payment on a house by spring time. in the mean-time the car will be put into a nice slumber.

As of wednesday, the turbo kicked the bucket. Seized bearing it seems. It has resistance when tried to be spun by hand, and does not even spin at idle. I have found a replacement hybrid (that is larger too ) The downside is it is a bit of a drive at 5 hours away.

Darn, you'll have to just come to the cruise meet and get it

I was thinking of asking him to bring it and doing a parking lot swap. All I need to do is swap the turbine housing...my only concern is if something goes wrong or doesnt fit like my intercooler pipe.

Turbo came in last night. Shaft play was normal and the compressor wheel did not hit the compressor housing so I am going to run it. Installing tonight. I'll have a video up eventually. I actually need to run to home depot and get a new coupling since it is 2.75 or 3 inch for the inlet now instead of 2 inches!

Turbo is in! Everything went smooth. Only problem is the oil drain leaks and Im fairly certain it was my fault. I dont think its sitting flush.
Big thanks to rx7 SE for getting the turbo to me quickly. I appreciate the extra gaskets as well!

Looks like the turbo I received has a clipped turbine wheel. My original turbo is the one on the left.

Here it is installed. Im wondering if I have more clearance due to the shaved manifold. A lot of people said they were really close to hitting the LIM. I'd like to get hold of a to4e compressor housing setup and see if I can cram it in there...maybe a new hybrid possibility?

Oh and I finally found my exhaust leak. Either the exhaust housing or the back plate is warped because there was a visable gap I could see light through.

Hoping to modify this s5 stuff and use it in place of the s4.

Could probably stuff a gasket in there for the mean time for the exhaust leak

Where would I find something to do that? what would hold up to the temps?

Finally replaced the crappy aluminum tape on my vmount with some aluminum side panels. My buddy makes duct work and had some spare aluminum laying around and cut out templates I had made. I think it came out well. I am considering using a single strip of tape around the edges just to seal everything off.

I also made a new 3 inch PVC intake. Previously I was going from 3 inch down to 2 inch for the turbo inlet. I wasn't sure if it was reducing flow to the turbo so I ran to home depot and picked up some 3 inch PVC conduit pipe and tossed it in. This was a mockup so I can have a 3 inch metal intake pipe made up. I just wanted to get the bends all correct before cutting and taking it to someone.

And the last update is the new turbo is working great! Boost doesn't hit as hard and that would be from the clipped turbine wheel. On the plus side it is holding boost at the top end instead of falling off! Previously I could roll into first gear and spin the tires. Now I can do it in second gear as well. One more trip to the track is in order...then its done for the year.

From personal experience and countless hours trying to fix that same problem, the only solution is to either machine that surface, weld the back plate on, or replace it. Rotary Evolution says it's not a common problem, but I've seen several of the turbos that I have used (and I've used quite a few). But no, a gasket won't hold up there. It blows right out

Looks like I'm a tard and forgot to post the picture of the vmount. The 3 inch intake is visible as well

Considering the Wastegate is no longer going to be moving in there...I could weld the piece shut. I really dont want to take the damn turbo off again though...

I'm considering the same thing with mine. Even though it's still internally wastegated, I have a whole pile of S4 turbine housings just sitting around that I can always swap over if I need to. This time when I take it off, however, I'll be taking an old exhaust valve and using that as the oversized flapper door, vs a washer from Lowe's. Increase longevity!

Thats a good idea! Now to go find someone with a blown up honda....hah!

It's time for me to start looking for a house for my wife and I so the car and this thread will probably be a bit more dormant soon. Money is going to get tight. However I have a few things I want to do like a heatshield for the LIM, a 3 inch metal intake and the LSD / rear bushings but other than that it is "done" as of now.

Future plans include a HX35/ GT35R sized turbo with 350-400 WHP and a nice set of sticky tires on FD or RPF1 rims.

Now that's more like it. Set up launch control on the megasquirt and you can get even better times than that!

That's pretty impressive.... This is on the bnr stage 3 you just installed? How much boost? And on what tires?

setting up launch control is on the list of things to do, as well as set up the EBC and get the stupid fan to work with the ECU as well.

Yeah that was on the BNR stage 3. boost was 14 PSI (~200 KPA with occasional spikes to 210 KPA). I'm not sure what tires they were. They were slicks on a set of FD wheels 26x8.5x16 I think? I ended up grenade-ing the rear end on my last run. I decided to drop the clutch at 7k instead of the 6500 I had done earlier. Had to tow it home . The car is gonna sit for the next couple months till I get the motivation to pull the rear end and swap in the LSD. I'll try and post a few video clips tonight.

Thanks Anthony. Glad we both met our goals for the day

Here is a clip vs a ZL1 Camaro and how it sounds with the external wastegate from the inside.
