Norwegian 90 T2 build

Got a 90 T2 without drivetrain, plan is to swap engine and drivetrain over from a 86 NA which has turbo engine tuned to 1.2Bar and turbo drivetrain. Then put NA parts in the NA and sell it.
Also the 90 T2 has styling which i will remove and replace with stock parts.

Red one is T2 and Grey is NA. Reason i'm keeping the T2 and not the NA is simple, it's legal with turbo engine and is registered with 4 seats. The NA is not road legal with turbo engine and only registered as a 2 seater.

The T2 looked realy good until i got a look underneath, both front jack point are full of rust and have had a botched repair previously, and some rust in the floor and mating flange between floor and channel. So since i wrecked my last FC because of to much rust and body damage, i was very happy to still have rust in my life -_-

But since the rest of the car looks realy straight and rust free, i just dove right into rust repair like i knew what i was doing :P
First step was to cut out all the rust and some good metal to use as a start for repair panels, and make it easyer to fit panels back on the car with decent weld gaps.

Not the best at taking pictures when i work, so here are some fixed panels and the rust cut out of them:

And finally all the parts welded in, Grey paint is 2K epoxy primer, black/see thru is epoxy based rust primer and blue is weld thru primer.

So that is all i have done to this point, next job is to do the other side, started this process i November so progress isn't that quick but hope to get the driver side done in less time.

Started to remove sideskirt and fender to access the rust on the driver side, more or less the same story as the passanger side. Previusly bad repair, covered with some sort of silicone goo, doesn't even look like they painted it 🥲

Sad to hear it has rust underneath too, it looked so clean! But as usual, looks like you're doing a great job repairing it! Subscribed to your new thread.

Trying my best😬, should atleast keep the rust away for many years to come, still alot less rust on this than the last one, + no body damage and doesn't need a complete paint job. So should actually be able to get it on the road next spring. Hopefully get it ready for test drives before winter.

Considered doing it like you did, but i considered taking the channel off would mean less welding upside down, and less weld spatter in my ear😅 + much easyer to remove and fix the inner panels.

Oh yea, I had some in my ears.

Something off-topic, if you don't mind, are there any s5 turbo engines for sale over there? With or without trans for normal money and not so called "running engines" for big money as it will get a rebuild anyway? Bare block is fine.

Nothing on the market as far as i can tell, but if you ask on the following facebook groups you might get an answer from someone.

Removed the rear bumper, just the wing left of the styling now. Now i can finally try to sell the styling to get it out of the way.

Got the wing off and that was the last of the styling removed.

Removed the seat mounts in preparation for cutting out parts of the floor, filled the holes and gave it a coat of weld thru primer so it's ready to go back in when the time comes.

First panel cut out for the driverside rust repair, previous owners repair sucked...

Got the parts car from winter storage.
It's an 86 NA with turbo 2 engine and drivetrain, + lots of mods. Plan to drive and enjoy it while i finish the rust repair on the red one, and just move parts straight from this over to the red one.
If anyone's wondering the car is not going to be parted out, plan to put in an NA engine and drivetrain, new standalone, and generally make it a nice project for someone else to drive and enjoy.

That's way more then I'm willing to pay lol. But then again, bare engine (w or w/o trans) is more then enough. And not searching for a "running engine"

prizes have sky rocketed, and people want crazy money for even for junk engines. But then again i have a spare engine, and if i was offered 3000euro i wouldn't sell it, cause it's almost impossible to find a desent engine for a reasonable prize.
If i was in the market for a new engine, i would rather save up and buy a brand new one from mazda, a used 3000 euro engine would quickly get to that point if it needed a rebuild...

Thats right! The engine i got was good, but i am doing a rebuild anyway. And with all new parts i think i have payd 5600€ total 😉

You can always find a cheaper engine to buy somewhere maybe, but most people know what they have and that the prices is way up and still goes up... 😊

You can buy mine, 7000€ + shipping 😄😄😄

Finally got motivated to continue with the rust repair.
Reinforcement removed from the car, it's so bad i think it's better to make a new one from scratch...
