NA rebuild questions
I tore apart my engine last night and am trying to decide what to do now. If I decide to rebuild it I have a few questions: Can I reuse the side seals, since they appear to be intact, and in good shape? How difficult is it to port the center housings on a 6 port (it looks like the end housings have been ported but not the primaries), and is it worthwhile to do it? It has had the exhaust sleeves removed and since it's torn apart I wonder if I should do any exhaust porting, and if it would do me any good? I do run this in a sandrail and once rolling I stay mostly between 3000rpm and 6500rpm, we don't ever really idle so I'm not worried to much about idle characteristics as long as it will idle. I run a 15 inch pipe from both exhaust ports into a Y pipe, then right into a flowmaster (2 1/2 inch all the way).

the manual is @ www.foxed.ca for the side seals, you measure them. there is a clearance at the end (side seal to corner seal) which is usually out of spec, and then there is the side seal to groove clearance too, this is maybe less important.
you can go thru the engine section, or there is a page in the back with a list of all the clearances. i just measure everything, and it makes it easy to figure out what needs to be replaced.

After looking at the cost to rebuild, and my lack of experience, verses buying a used engine, I have decided to go with a fuel injected turbo motor for my buggy. This should give me more hp for around the same cost (since I think one of the rotors is ruined and that would need replaced in addition to other costs). I found someone who will hook me up with a wiring harness that is pretty much plug n' play for my buggy for $250 so I can just run the stock ecu and harness. I can't wait to get it in and see how it goes with a good motor in it.
