awesome work! looks and sounds like a rotary should. can't wait to see what happens when you're able to start pushing it.

i'm curious though, what issues were you having with the ACT clutch?

Thanks a lot man, I'm looking forward to it too!

The clutch was an ACT sprung 6 puck that I bought used from someone locally. They had some kind of problem with the flywheel they used with it, so they slid shims under the pressure plate to correct it. It ended up wearing the one side of the disk substantially, and was weird in my car. At the time, I just needed a clutch stronger than stock and it was very cheap.

They are great clutches though! I've run them in other cars with great results.

Haven't Updated in a while.

Got my resistor pack together to run my injectors, at this point I was ready to tune for some power.

After making a decent power for a bit, I ended up cracking the front housing of the engine. Blew every drop of oil out really fast at the top of 4th gear just near my house. Shut it down in time, unfortunatly had to yank the engine again though.

Oil everywhere. It sprayed under the car and up the back from the speed. Thank goodness didn't start a fire.

Well, I should probably finish documenting all of this. When I last updated, I had cracked the front iron and pulled the engine out / apart.

Got another front iron ported from Schlodes and gaskets in.

Got the car running that weekend, made gobs of power. Broke another front iron a few days after. Same conditions, conservative timing, loads of fuel, and meth. Found it was having an ignition problem at high rpm from spark plug wires touching each other. "Cross Fire"
So, John (xbot) and Steve were there to tow my junk home, again.

THEN found out the rear iron also broke the last time, and I didn't know it. I shut the car off so fast when it blew up last to keep the oil in the pan that there was no sign. I also didn't inspect the other plates very closely as the damage to the front was pretty apparent. So, I had freshly rebuild engine that was still blown up. Didn't even leave the shop.

So, after all the smoke settled, and I thought about it, I decided enough with rotary. I pulled out everything rotary and sold it all.

So now i'm building a 4.8L LS Turbo engine to put in. I really hate to just leave all this work on the rotary like that, but I just feel like i'll never be able to make reliable power with it. The LS will do that really well.

I know i'll take lots of grief for it, but I really did give this an honest try, and put lots of time effort and money into it. Hope this build can encourage other people though!

Apologies if I missed this, but why did you never pin your motor? A 5-pin would've been perfect for your setup.

That would have been the next step for me, but these engines weren't dying from twisting. It was from cross firing. I would have otherwise been right at the limit for a non dowel engine.

Normally I hate seeing people ditch the rotary but with the luck you had with that motor I can't say I blame you. Real nice build thread though, I'm impressed with the fab skills.

Thanks so much for reading though this, really appreciate it! The car has made a bit of progress, should see the road by fall. Still going to build myself another rotary!
