So to solved the seat issue, I cutt off a half inch from the rear legs on the seat. I also did some tweaking to the bracket so all the holes match the frame rails.

I also spent over 5 hours drilling out the rusted Seat bolts I never fixed years ago! Its absolutely sucked but I got it done.
The seat is now all bolted in and is slightly more reclined. I think it feels great! I might bail on this brack and try to scrounge up a side mount if the opportunity arises. With a side mount i could lower it a bit more. The bracket sits a little high still but usable.

Another sing I fixed with bolting the Steering column to the colum bracket. It had previously just been attached with some zip ties and it was pretty sketchy. lol Its nice and solid now.

The now is technically drivable now.

LIST OF STUFF TO REMEMBER FOR LATER:
Dashboard
Electric killswitch
Ignition switch. (racecar style)
CAge

I found a sweet website that sells lmons cages to order. I'm going to be measuring this out with my codrivers in the seat and hopefully getting that ordered in September.

So a major update!
We ran this car in the gingean 24 Hour of Lemons race with zero issues all weekend
Built the cage in 30 hours with no sleep and drive the car straight to the track 2 hours away. Raced all weekend (270 laps) and then drove it home!
I can't believe how awesome everything went!

So now the preparation begins for the new season!!!!

Planning on three races. 14.5 hour at Gingerman for Lemons, 14 hour at Michigan International Speedway for Chumpcar, and a full 24 hour at Joliet for Lemons!

First things first, get rid of the the **** i dont need that never got taken out. The "sub zero" bottle, AC compressor, extra plumbing, clutch fan and AC condenser!

Next I get to fix the seat mounting, add some camber wedges, and then tinker with a million other things!

After a days worth of work with the press, acetylene torch, and a big hammer, the rotors are off the hubs!!
Got em all cleaned and the bearings and races looks great.
Sand blasted the spindles to get the rust off and painting with this cool chrome looking rust off stuff.

Tomorrow I'm fabbing up some kick butt brake ducting

Next on the docket is pulling the engine and doing a wear analysis. Then cutting out the exhaust sleeves.
Also removing the OMP as its not doing anything. Removing the eccentric shaft oil stopper thingy and replimbing the oil cooler lines as they are hella leaky.

Then I'm making the new airbox for the radiator. I also got a used front splitter from work for FREE NINETY FREE!!!

So yeah things are moving along.

I think you should keep the splitter that big for style points! Per the welds, they're great because thr car is actually used for racing!

GXL DD, or chump car #2 in a few months?

Thanks!! The Gxl will hopefully be some my DD after I get some things worked out. It has a random tired 13b from a junkyard and it have a major vacuum leak that gets worse when it's hot. I have the idle control slammed shut and it still idles around 2k. Lol
Hopefully reinstalling the upper and lower intakes to check for leaks this weekend.
It also has some interesting rear suspension issues. Any bump in the road launches the car to the right pretty bad. Hopefully just a bent camber link bar or something silly.

New water pump in the GXL gets rid of the cooling issues!
Now to get a weekend to pull the rear carriers and do a DTSS delete.

The race car should be getting brake duct hoses soon and also a radiator box. Only one brake to swap out the whole emergency moving thing kinda three off my groove.

So got the Timing set on the GXL and it idles around 900 now! Pretty stoked
Also the plugs were in backwards on the rear rotor, the waterpump seemed to solve my coolant issues and its starting MUCH easier now.

The Cat is clogged as hell so thats gotta get cut out soon and the front port actuator isn't working well. Maybe after this next race I can get all that stuff sorted.

On my way back from working at Homestead Miami speedway. Took the pole and won the race which lead to a vicious tech inspection. Had to pull the valvetrain, p and g, and compression ratio test. Passed it all though!

Photo of me at work.

Anyways the mazda should be getting some love this week! Stay tuned

Well yge test race at gingerman was both good and bad.
Tge car was fairly sorted handling and braking wise. It should now that is has three new calipers and all new rotors and pads.

Bad bews is we ran low on ojl twice and and then blew the motor. =[
It made over 100 laps in the race plus 5 or so 20 minute test sessions.

Anyways it looked good!

Well its been over two years and a lot has happened in life while this turd sat in storage.

I rebuilt the engine in an all nighter the day before a track day and failed miserably. I borrowed my buddies M3 for that event thanfully but I was pretty upset that I couldn't get the rebuild working right.

Long story short: I had a mismatched Front Hub to the new Eccentric shaft and thus could not time it at all.
Also I had a terrible vacuum Leak from a forgotten Line on hte back of the motor. This was a year long delay as I could not bring myself to keep scratching my head on that one.

Its all documented in this thread:

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...ideas-1118410/

Now I can focus on the million other things to work on. lol

There is another Gingerman Lemons race next month but I've passed the registration date and I doubt I can find the money and people to run it. But maybe I can pull a miracle.

Finally got the car running decently. Drove her outside and gave her a good scrub to remove the inch of dust and bird poop.

Next big think is pulling the oil pan and resealing it.

Well its been a hell of a ride.

Last week I sold the car to Team Wankelr who flew in to drive the car all the way across the country to Seattle. That is well over 2000 miles with no windows, Heat, AC, or roof!

They made it and I am glad that the car has gone to a good home!

Their escapades are documented on their facebook and instagram.

It's been a while, but I wanted to jump in here and thank Ed, on behalf of Team Wankelr Racing, for the car. After driving it 2,400 miles from MI to Seattle, we raced it a few weeks later and ran two 7 hour days at full pace and never missed a beat. Our only mechanical was when the splitter mounts gave up and we got black flagged. A few minutes and some baling wire and we were back on track for the remainder. Since the car is street legal, I get it out weekly for a buzz around to **** off the neighbors, and she still keeps going. We need to swap out the gearbox for one that doesn't have failing synchros, but we knew that when we bought it.

She'll next race in LeMons come July, I think. We're building another car more suitable for Lucky Dog racing, but might re-cage this one so it's legal for Lucky Dog (they want non-seamed cage tube material). We'll make that decision in a month.

Thanks, Ed. Great adventure. If you can come out in July, join us for the LeMons race.

Dave
