88 t2/ turbo renisis swap

Well the time has come. Finally got a t2 roller from a buddy for 500 usd. Ironically he bought the t2 to swap into my old fb i sold him over 7 years ago. Its rough but all the interior is there minus the bins. Dash is hammered but I'll fix it.

Now the reason you clicked. I pulled out a 04 4 port a month or so back for 175 bucks. When pulling it i found a mazda reman plack dated 2019. So dug in the car and found the paperwork 15k miles on it. So instead of cracking it open in the yard did my due diligence. Pulled plugs rotated checked seals ect the whole 9. Took the risk as I thought it was soild.

Got it home tossed on a fc na flywheel ( gotta love factory auto rear weights) have a gls se trans and bolted it up. Cranked it up and damn..... 6 even pluses soild not weak. Ok feeling good at this point. Ok let's comp test, thanks rotarycommpressiontester.com. and yeah score.

Comp averaged 108 psi dry and +- 2 psi. After sitting for who knows how long in the yard. Hell yeah! Still not out of the woods though. Did some very rudimentary but worked coolant pressure test. Held 15 psi for over 3 hours. Yeah.... yeah this was a huge win! For 175 id do that deal every day. I guess we will see when in a car and running. But im feeling good.

So I have this rennisis and yesterday i get the call hey you want this. Yes i do. Now i have a ton of rx parts been in the game just with my 1st gen. Borgwarnner on the shelf loads of tube intercooler ect. You see where im going with this. So hear we go t2 with a turbo 4 port rx8 engine. Will it live, will i kill it instantly? Who cares its going to be fun while it lasts.

Fun parts and the best for all those that are going to hate. Budget 2k -2.5k for running and driving.
rx8 4 port - $175
car - $500
trans - free + 3 spares
mustang cable throttle body - $6
coils either stock 8's or ls1- free -$20 depending on witch route I pick
Borgwarnner- idk ive had it for some years cant even remember getting it so- free
piping- $free not my first rodeo
fpr -$free pulled from my old setup

Things I need
Ecu, going speeduino- $427 (ecu- case-harness-14.7wb controller) I run this on my 1st gen
cutom drive shaft - idk not that far $250-300???
So we are at $1428

Ill budget everything and doc it hear so everyone can see what something like this will truly cost.

Now my question to everyone if I sell of parts i wont use from the t2 can I use that in budget

Also for anyone who might be interested. This will be covered on my YouTube channel. Just shoot me a pm and ill link it to you. Dont want to force anyone on it.

I think you're OK to post your youtube channel here, I'll probably check it out.

Where about in Idaho are you? Did you happen to get this car near fruitland?

Ill post it up once I actually post a video about it. Race season is about to kick off. And My first gen still needs a exhaust. And get it out to open up the space in my garage. So this has to back burner untell I get that car ready. But the perks of holding off, I get to really plan and pinch the Penneys....... well nickles on parts. I have the whole idea and what is needed, but as well all know its the small stuff that adds up quick and kills this type of project.

another FC Renny around, very cool! I also would be keen to follow if you posted the youtube link.

I'm guessing you've seen my build, it may have some good info in there for you. Especially the motor mount templates.

I have for sure! I dont think your mounts will work as designed as " i know its not right but im useing a gls-se trans " i have 3 extras laying around so when I kill it instantly, i have more.... untell I dont." But will definitely be adjusting as needed. Im trying to figure out a way to control the intake valve thing . But that is a future issue.

well i needed to clear up some room in the garage and a msp+ trans takes up a bit of floor space. so figured i would toss it in the car.

Its far from in the correct spot but close enough to get a visual on what needs to happen. Yeah its a 13b but this thing fits perfect! I have a glsse trans on it and unless i find a super cheep 6 speed its going to stay on it. Whats super nice is the car has a racing beat down pipe on it and it lands perfect...... well kinda. so as any one would do, go get the turbo and see where it can go. and thats the down side of the msp intake.

just sat in but a semi low mount?

And this was a lot harder of a pic to take. man handle a turbo with one hand then take a decent pic with the other haha. but a high/front mount. manifold would be cake to make and bring up to this spot and a dp with better routing i believe. The turbo is a Borg Warner sx200 twin scroll .88ar should do decent for this.

No video out yet but my yt is http://www.youtube.com/@LastChanceSpeedCo. I am by far not a video guy but im trying hahah

Ah yes, the intake valve thing. I was looking into that as well back when I wasn't sure if I could get the stock ECU to work. I don't believe the 4 port motors have the APV stepper that you'll need to worry about. The other actuators I believe are just vacuum operated so the speeduino should be able to control some simple solenoids. Assuming you have the spare IO for them.

I was looking at it today and yeah shoud just beable to send a pwm to them. And have enough outputs to do so. So on ecu and physical sides should work just fine. And started coping your mounts just need to 3d print them and figure out where the new notches need to be then get em cut.

But a update for the build. A few months back i bought a intake setup from a fourm member @Jeezus ( the intake and EFI protaper are up and running on the race car thanks again) but in the bundle came with a Megasquirt ecm. And after rerouting some outputs I have it running cop and semi sequential. Well at least on the test bench. Or um the top of my car . So I'll just be using that ecm.

So no need to spend the original $427 I original had in the budget. But will still need a wb controller. Or use my old aem unit. In other news got the t2 switched to the other side of the driveway and will be putting it up on stands to actually start on this!!!!

Shot over a message. And may have a line on a 6 speed for 200 bucks. So who knows might not even need to modify the brackets. And if I go that route do you have a trans mount bracket?
