Drove 50 kilometers today YAY!The turbo blanket smoked like crazy for a hour, if i stopped behind red light there was quite a lot of smoke coming from the scoop

Before Driving i changed the radiator overflow tank hose to a new one, there was a random fuel hose before that. cut the plastic under tray to fit, put the hood on, cleaned the front subframe from oil to see if somethings still leaks (pretty sure right now that everything holds, but for checking later)
Changed some bulbs, and also i let it wash at the carwash over the yard.
some problems also:
Oil is too thin, cheap 15w-40 what i used for +10Clesius, if i drive it and the oil gets hot(110-120C) i get only 1 bar of oil pressure @ idle, not so bad at evening but still bad, gonna change the oil tomorrow.
some other problem also but forgot it already.
Hasn't been so clean more than a 8 years I think, they washed the body even under the doors when they are open.
LOL even the guy's at the auto repair came to look at the car when i drove it to wash, offered me a job right away Too bad i already have an awesome job.
But I had to park in front of my house for tonight to go straight from work because otherwise i cant make it, the seagulls have probably shat the car white by morning...
Tomorrow i'll let the windshield damage repaired and i hope that they have some window seals that can be used, the lady at the phone told they have no seals for this car but i'm hoping the seals are same as most mazdas that time.
Also i need to get the wheel alignement done ASAP, drives slalom , i know i can get to a guy who can make miracles for handling but how soon, don't know yet.
Lots of small stuff to do aswell, so my evenings are busy
but for now
Goodnight!

So i got really worried about the low oil pressure today, went to buy some thicker oil, my friend already had a 5 liter castrol edge 10w60 race oil with a bulk buy? wholesale price so i went and bought a liter more + while there i bought the most expensive castrol 75w90 GL4 tranny oil what i could find because now i know all gears work and syncros are okay and i can change to better oil.
The 60weight oil made the oil pressure better, wont go under 2bar on idle or 1000rpm.
3000 rpm reading is just under 60psi, about 4 Bar.. like in the fsm
BUT it wont go over that even at 5k rpm and i think more...
(really couldn't watch the gauge more when we did a 3rd gear pull to redline, but that's another story what i can write later)

So if anybody is reading this and can help me out, please do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Explenation::

I used the aaron cake method for the oil pressure regulator:
How To Shim The Oil Pressure Regulator
At the time i guess i didnt know what i was doing so i did like it was written there, put only 2 washers in.
So could that be the problem?

OR..
do the symptoms lean towards front cover o ring+ teflon ring+ gasket mismatch??? like written in mazdatrix.com:
https://www.mazdatrix.com/faq/oring.htm
I really do not remember how did the casting look, but i'm pretty sure theres a gasket+oring+teflon ring in there..

So please if anyone reads this and could help with knowledge i would be very grateful!
I really wanna get the problem fixed before weekend.

I will check the oil pressure reading with an analog manometer i got tomorrow but after that i'm taking the oil pan off and maybe the front cover also..

goodnight

Oh and does anyone know if the stock oil pressure sender wire is from engine harness or from body harness? i Can't seem to find them on the car or on the old wiring.

New jack:

Was a great deal, only 99€, now i can lift high and i can lower the car and pull the jack out, old small jack was too high at it's lowest. No more messing with wood blocks to lift.

Spray can paint:

@ work, early morning, shines nicely but all those dust scratches and paint flaws are seen very well.

Made new battery holding thingies

they were on my way the whole winter but when i needed them they were gone so just made new stainless..

So yesterday i measured oil pressure with 2 analog gauges and it showed 1 bar more than my vdo :@ 5 bar with cold engine... fixed some more minor problems and went driving, so my friend invited me to a car meet (People doing burnouts and such) i was a bit afraid because i dont want police to write down my reg. number and i dont have tech inspection but they were in the back corner of a parking lot so i went. It seems there is a japanese car community forming, thats good because otherwise it all BMW, gets really boring looking at the same car over and over again.
Anyway people were looking at the car with wtf faces at the meet, but everywhere i go on the street people come close and show thumbs up, kids wave and point towards me and so on... it's quite funny, this morning an old Russian lady came close and knocked on my window and said nice car
Anyway we went driving after the car meet, everything seems fine so far, gears change so smoothly with the castrol gl4, only thing it doesnt idle for a minute when cold and when i let it rev higher under boost and then switch to neutral the engine turns off- the problem is already figured out.
Windshield wipers actually are okay for me with the only speed that works, not slow, not too fast... new wipers also so that helps alot.

But the fuel economy omg, went driving with two mr2 one of them mk3 and the guy said he criss-crossed Estonia, drove 17 laps on track and back home from there with one tank of gas,I drove 200 kilometers with half a tank

So a while back i decided to go on a longer trip, to test out the car. So i took my friend onboard and started driving to a techno festival, i was gonna leave the next day to be in garage but 4 kilometers before arrival the engine shut off and did not start anymore, tried to push with no luck, battery was also drained... so i started to look up the problem, and noticed there is no fuel pressure..
We were towed to the party (on an old air field 2.5km long straights )

At first i thought this was an ecu problem, but when i got a multimeter from a friend i noticed the power comes to the pump.
So i took it out and found there is no resistance. The pump is basically brand new, 350km and 3 hours of work.
So a miata guy i know and happened to be there told me to knock the pump a little... and it started working- for a moment.
Tried several times, i guess i took the pump out like 7 times that day, even got the engine running for a while but it was not possible to drive it back.
Then my friend brought me my stock pump and i got to drive back in vacuum-0.1bar.

But atleast i got to enjoy the party and see all the people i havent because i was in the garage for two years..

Finally got some new tires, turns out the ones i had were like 11 years old. No wonder it did not drive straight and had all these long strips of balancing weights on

these get really grippy when warm

instantly it drove better, so the next day i got my wheel alignement done on a new bench.
Only problem was in the bad shock absorber in front drivers side... i'm not even sure its a rx7 shock... anyway the camber wasn't really adjustable on that side but toe in-s were made good in every corner and the handling went much better, acceleration aswell..

Made a number plate holder onto the tow hook.

But the number looks awful, atleast it AUS (honest)

Then I was going to youngtimer camp for 25+ year old cars
But ofcourse technical problems again.
I must have broken the oil cooler from the thermostat hole, because it leaked like crazy. So i already thought i cant go but remembered to call my friend and ask a cooler from my first car.
Got lucky and dug it out halfway from dirt- washed it, cleaned with solvents and new oil.. and it works fine

yeah, but could look better, needs new fender and polish and so on.
But for now i have to make it reliable, just installed stock oil pressure sender so tomorrow if i have time i can find the right route for body harness and make the stock gauge work.

Also i'm pretty sure that i have too little e-shaft end play, makes some noise when cold. Not good at all I measured the play with everything on (belts, front cover) and i't says 0.1mm

The engine should be broken in for now. about 1400 kilometers traveled. should change oil and cut up the filter and lookfor any metal.. maybe even put a magnet in old oil?

Anyway i'm back from a trip and everything went fine.
I'm surprised to know that it does not take too much fuel on highway, maybe like 11-13 liters for 100km @ 130km/h Quite econimic

Main sponsor:

Got a traffic ticket also when coming back, for not having inspection for 3 YEARS... wtf i haven't driven for 4 years damn it they did not understand a brake in period so my excuse was totally useless.

So when coming back to home we avoided highways and went by backroads..

Nice vid! I've followed the thread though not subscribed. Good looking car. Congrats!

Estonia looks a lot like Missouri when you got away from the evergreens and into more of the deciduous type area. Pines don't do do good here because it just gets too hot in the summer.

Thanks guys
That road is actually rated as one of the best driving roads in Estonia, the video actually wont do any justice, the elevation changes are not seen too good..
But there are many greater roads in south.
That turbo sounds like its from a semi truck, what it probably is

Almost no time at all to be in garage in summer time.. slow progress, but trying to enjoy warmth as long as i can, it's already cold in the morning and getting darker really fast

So in meantime i have killed 2 new fuel pumps, so the car is not driving right now, i mean i could but with the stock pump, the insurance is over, no tech. inspection and i dont have money for these things right now anyway...

Good news:
i thought i have a eshaft end play problem because of the noise when cold, but when my friend heard it, he said that wasn't the case, so we started to listen the sound and it comes from the front end-radiator side (what i thought was wrong when i first heard it) and finally i discovered that the bad sound comes from oil cooler- it even vibrates when the oil is cold, i guess i'm gonna change the oil to a thinner one next time 15w-50 or something... i actually have only 2 choices of synthetic oil in here for that weight.

At some point I opened the break-in oil filters, the first one had quite a lot of silicone debris inside and some metal shavings, the next one had metal shavings also, but much less than the first one (1000km of driving til break-in end)
Makes me suspect something is wrong, but these were like 10 pieces for the whole filter, about 1x1mm in size. Gonna cut the next filter soon also and take a look if anything has gone better or worse.

Damn now when i thought about the cold, i need to fix the dash vent problem asap.
There is no warm/hot air coming, also only the front vents work, no windshield vents or leg/floor vents work, although if i push the buttons on the control panel the lights start to work, pff hard to explain in english, i will make a video soon...

Now i put some foil tape on the strut tower because the turbo makes everything really hot, even the fender is warm doesn't help much actually...
The stock oil pressure gauge is also working now, even worse than the VDO unit, but still shows something...
Found out why the heating is not working, browsed the hayne's manual, and there is a connector on the heating control unit what connects to the controller, they are not connected, so I started to disassemble the panels on dashboard, almost there just need to uninstall the instrument cluster, need to remove it anyway because some of the lights are not working, most noticeable is the turn signal arrow what i need because the turn signal switch won't fit with my steering wheel hub and i have to manually cancel it.
New fuel filter also installed, the car ran good when warm but needs a cold start tune.
Also got a new boost controller so when i get a new pump it goes in there... for a while I have felt that i want more power!

Started digging in, it was quite the gynecology exam to get the connector and connect it to the other one, but i finally got it after disassembling some parts under the dash.

this is the bastard i didn't notice to connect.

And now it works
Blowing air from wherever i want.
Also noticed a air pipe where to connect a piece for what i did not found a place to put it, hoping it's the one..

So while the instrument cluster was out i was changing the bulbs in there and noticed i actually have one of these missing. Maybe other mazdas from that period have these, then i have a chance to get a replacement.

Still no answer from HRC-performance so i opened the second fuel pump to see what is wrong.
One of the brushes was stuck and the other was half-worn and the rotor was scratched and burned.
Theres a thread about it on the 2nd gen forums.

Gonna buy a cheap 340lph pump from a local shop, if it should end up like these i wont be so sorry again..

Payday finally, so i bought a new pump.
Looks cheap, weighs a tiny bit less than the old pump and if i shake it i feel movement inside. so yeah, feels cheap.

But it works, at least as good as the old one, or even slightly better, the cold start idle problem is gone, i had to tap the throttle or it stalled before, until it warmed up to 80C or something.. now it just runs, so the stalling problem must be a symptom of a dieing pump.
I also put a magnet from the old pump inside the tank under the restrainer-sucky-thingy to catch some metal particles if there should be any.

Then we went on a test drive to check the AFR-s, everything seems like it was before i think, maybe a lil bit richer but i noticed boost creeped over 0.4 bar. At first i thought it was the new boost controller, so i removed the spring and ball. Still creeping... then i removed the bc itself, thinking the bleed hole is too small... luckily i had a long enough teflon hose with me.. Still same problem, so it had to be the wastegate itself... drove back to the garage, let it cool for a long time and then took it off..

The first thing i noticed when i took the valve off was a missing plug, I don't know if it has unscrewed itself or it hasn't been there the whole time, the threads in there looked untouched.

plugged it off then.. i was about to install it again but thought to test it with compressed air - no movement, again, still nothing, and again and the valve just fell off to the floor.. wtf?

I've been really lucky with some of the components failed like the pump and wg, what can kill the engine easily..
Reassembled the wastegate and put a double nut on it so it couldn't rock itself loose again, i should check it at some point.

Then we went testing again, it has rained like in Amazonas for weeks, and still is... Lots of toads on the road, poor things get killed under all these cars driving Anyway everything seemed okay for now (maybe a small boost leak somwhere, bit under 0.4 bar now, maybe just the missing plug from wg) and lot of room to try some sideways driving... made clear that the lsd is not working, could drift on left side but not on the right side- just one wheel rotating, still had some fun there for a while, spit some foot long flames

a nice pic of the interior with all the lights, bells and whistles working.

but it was too dark and for the sake of the toads we leaved the place and went back to the city.. got the knowledge that everything works like it should and that is what we went after for.

Now I just want to raise the boost finally, but that needs dry weather to be safe..

Oh, forgot to mention that the foil tape works really good as a heat shield actually. almost cool to touch by hand vs, bare metal what was hot. Need to apply some more of it! No need to buy that golden tape if on tight budget.

Someone who worked in the road & auto registration had made a small mistake and registered the car as a non- catalytic converter car, so I passed emissions test!!!!! wohooo
So that made the tech inspection almost legal!
I've noticed before when checking my car from the web that most of the stuff is missing from the list so basically i could put some 22" rims under there and nobody could say a thing!

This vs. my capella wagon where clearly is regulated what size rims and tires and all such things have to be.
Maybe it's just because the car is almost non existent in here and there is nowhere to take data for it.
Everything else was good also, damper test showed almost 90% efficiency with a 4%difference between right and left, rear and front
And brake efficiency 83% what is supposedly really good, most cars are about 50%
There was only one thing, minor oil leak from the oil pan, went to garage right after the inspection and yes, the bolts were quite loose on the back side of the oilpan.
Also changed the front drivers side strut to strut tower thing (with the bearing inside) It made a nasty clunk whenever i drove through a hole or off a sidewalk..

Some bad luck, but at the same time i'm incredibly lucky that my precious didn't burn to the ground:

That O-ring on the primary injector!!!
I was about to arrive to my destination and i noticed a change in the idle revs.. so i was pulling on the side of the road and then the engine died, i smelled quite strong gasoline odor also, opened the hood and there was a puddle of boiling fuel on the LIM (there was still some pressure in the system so more of it flowed on there) Good that i wasn't making any hard turns at that point or it would possibly dripped on turbo and e.manifold what would have caused a fire...

Then finally when i was towed to my garage and i removed the UIM and fuel rail i realized that i may have drilled the injector hole too shallow, so it popped out somehow. At this point right now when i'm writing this, i have drilled the holes deeper so it should hold nicely, its a really tight fit.

Also when i was searching for the leak i noticed an open vacuum nipple, and after seeing under the uim i discovered theres a bunch of these.... boost has blown these silicon caps away so i just welded them shut now for good.

I had planned a road trip to Hiiumaa for some time now and now I had my vacation.
From A to B, to C and back, to visit some friends.

Bought new light bulbs because i was afraid to go without seeing anything at night, it gets dark quite early now..

But as usual, before going something must go wrong, while i changed the bulbs my friend was tuning idle with tunerstudio, everything done we went inside his garage for a few hours. When we decided to leave, the car did not start anymore.
So for some time we did troubleshooting and took the ecu inside.. luckily there were many ecu's and we then discovered the processor died somehow, i got a replacement and we got the engine running, but there was this strange sound from the engine @idle, flapflapflapflap or like intake noises, everything else seemed normal.
Still decided to go as everything else was okay.

On the Ferry:

The next day we went to take my friends Lada to repairs, to a guy who owned my car at some point..
With older brother:

There was also this:

Gonna go to body repair soon...
The red one back there:

Could push fingers through the body :/
The guy is constantly trying to buy all the sa22c 7's he could find, theres still 2 known to be, maybe for sale even.
Also he has two 12A engines inside the workshop, unopened but probably a broken apex.. on one.. said he brings em to me for rebuild

Mostly very long straight roads on the island ( are the wipers supposed to go up when driving over 200km/h?)
But some had really nice curves, especially the road to this lighthouse

Back on the mainland, near B:

cat going crazy on the trees

@ B lives my friend whos doing bodywork for living, lots of cars there too..
This seems like my future race car:

loving those oldschool stickers on the back

Got back home nice and safe, and the bad sound from the engine was probably because of the gasoline puddles on the uim, and it ate the red shitty silicone(what btw is everywhere inside the engine also), I took all of the intake off again cleaned and tightened it stronger than factory manual suggests with my hand torque.. can't almost hear that noise anymore...
