hmm, the JDM guys do FC radiators all the time. ive never done it though...

That looks close to what I was playing around with earlier, but it looked like clearance was going to be an issue, I will double check it when I have some free time on my hands. Will do what I can about getting the pictures as soon as possible, right now I am just checking the forums before headin' to my first job.

So here's the first problem, the radiator itself is causing me a bit of a headache...

As you can see there is no metal shroud that normally mounts the stock radiator, this was gone when I got the shell.

Now Here's the problem I have, the sway bar gets in the way of letting me mount the radiator low enough to clear the hood. To be specific, the passenger side hose fitting is what is getting in the way. If I cut it down I need to make a new nipple for the heater line.

Here's a rough look at how it would look with it slant mounted, the only problem with this set up is that once again, the lower radiator hose fitting is practically against the cross member and I am worried about it rubbing/breaking the hose.

So yeah... need to get this squared away before I an make any progress on the finishing her up.

Looks like you need to tip the rad more toward the front of the car. If you compare your pics to the one in #202, your filler neck is much higher than the one in the pic. if you lay it down more, you should have more clearance for your lower hose.

Perhaps a s4 radiator would be better for you - there is no filler neck on the radiator, just a cap in the center.

That's the problem, Originally I was going to mount it like that, but I didn't realize that once the engine was in I couldn't angle it enough to get it past the sway bar.

I'm not worried about the filler neck, that's going to go. I have a block-off plate for it and I will just use the S4 filler from the thermostat housing instead, the biggest issue is that I can't get it enough for that lower rad hose fitting not to get in the way of something.

Do you ever have any issues with that lower hose rubbing on the crossmember? Its so close I'm afraid of damaging my hoses...

i have solid mounts in my GSL-SE now, all i do is wrap it with a piece of old hose and zap strap it. I check on it once a month. I only drive the car friday nights to the drag strip, make 4-5 passes then drive home. My future fix is a aluminum pipe with rad hose on either end.

thats an idea. the rx8 has something like this in the upper hose, its just a steel part with a bracket so it bolts to something.

but the hose can't rub the crossmember if its bolted to it

Hmm... Maybe I will make an aluminum or steel pipe with a bracket that the hose can route through? I will go ahead and play with the idea tomorrow during welding, while I make some brackets for the radiator.

It looks like a bit of messing round. Have you considered tracking down some mounting panels for the radiator and running a 3 core 1st gen radiator? May be more costly though than if you want to try and make this fit. Just out of interest I'm running a hk monaro (old aussie muscle car) four core radiator, and it mounts to the factory panels...

I finally got fed up trying to get that second gen radiator to work and install the oil cooler. Came across a '83 12A in the junk yard and took the radiator, mounts, and oil cooler (and a stock two spoke steering wheel I'm not sure what to do with) Ended up installing it in the car today and came across an issue, my Taurus e-fan is to thick, I can't get it between the water pump pulley and the radiator. I know the GSL-SE radiator mounts are a hair thinner, but I don't have them or a junk car to get them from. So you guys have any ideas? I don't think I could even run the stock clutch fan either.

On my phone right now and its a pain to post pictures, so give me a couple dates to get my laptop fixed, hard drive died on me.

But you guys have any suggestions to how to thin the fan down or get a thinner e-fan that's a good or near as good as the Taurus fan? Thanks in advance, starting to look like I'll hear the engine roar around December.

Sorry, was distracted most of the weekend so I didn't get them pics uploaded till just now.

But here's an idea of the problem I am having, my Taurus E-Fan won't clear the water pump pulley, and I don't think I can cut it down any further. So any ideas here mates?

i have a dumb idea. i'm wondering if the engine is too far forward?

i didn't look to see how you put the engine in the car, but since it was a gsl-se, isn't there a chance that it has BOTH the gsl-se subframe and a engine mount bracket that is bent to fit a 13b?

either that or the 81-82 radiator setup is that much thicker (its 3 row vs 2)

The crossmember and mount are for a 12a, I slotted the holes and let the engine sit as far back as it would go before tightening the engine and transmission mounts. The radiator came out of a '83, but whether model year or production year I didn't think to check when I was at the junkyard.

I want to save making the fan setup a push through as a last resort.
