Matt's 85 GSL (better than last time) T2 FB build

After having some blown engine troubles with my 82 i decided i wanted to start looking for another shell to swap all my parts on to. I also wanted an 84 or 85 car so that i could do a 5 lug/t2 brake swap more easily. I bought a clean 85 for $500 with only 137k on the clock, even runs on 1 rotor. The car has a clean complete red interior that i will dye/paint black and am going to dye my t2 seats black as well. The exterior is very straight and there seems to be almost no rust on the car. there is alot of paint chips up front though but the po said he thought it might have been towed for some of its life. Heres a few pics of the car as i bought it.

Maybe i just need a cleaner shell for motivation. haha

Ordered an 87 jetta steering rack last night, going to convert this car to r&p before i put the engine in. also ordered a different wideband (ngk afx) and some new front tokico illumina struts, this time i got the race inserts.

Not interested in doing an FC subframe eh?

I'll be interested in seeing what you come up with for the VW steering as I'm going to be doing that (probably) on my one FB (the non turbo one). Seems like mounting it won't be very difficult, more curious what you come up with for a steering column connection.

Thanks craaaazy. it didnt take too long. it seems im addicted to spending money on this car and just cant stop

small update.

decided on using an 80 dodge omni steering rack. its 42in end to end so its almost a perfect fit for the fb.

also bought a mazdatrix airdam today, should hopefully look like this but without the light holes (sorry for stealing someones pic)

got a resonator and a flex section for my exhaust and also starting getting dye/paint for my interior color change.

I received my ngk afx wideband today to replace my innovate mtx-l. so thats for sale if anyone wants it.

hopefully gunna pull the engine this weekend and figure out the damage so i can start ordering parts for it.

Nice airdam choice, where did you find it? Should help bring more air into the system. These cars are truely addictive!
