Thanks - I just replaced my front struts using KYB. One thing I haven't quite figured out... the manufacturer says Do not add oil, water or liquid to the strut tube. But, practically, most folks add oil or anti freeze to the tube. Is that overkill? It seems that it wouldn't hurt anything, even with gas cartridges, because it would help dissipate heat.

strut replacements(cartridge) slide down inside the strut tube, replacing all the original internals, including the oil that filled them. no need to put anything in them.

I added oil to my strut tubes....I think they don't want you to put oil or anything on the strut shaft.....

You need to put some ling of lube to dissipate the heat and prevent early failure of the new strut ....read the service manual....it explains it.....
