I should paint this... right?

Heres my problem... I just got another RX and I'm in the middle of putting an engine in this car... when I took the dead engine out I found that almost all the paint has come off of the drivers side frame rail in the engine bay. I should really paint this before I put the new engine in right? My plan was to just use some rattle can primer and black high temp engine paint I have left over from my last rebuild. I could also por-15 it... any thoughts or suggestions?

Thanks,
Rob

well the best primer for bare metal application is epoxy based...

as usual being a body man I would never ADVISE to use spraybalm since it has no cataylst.....its only one part....BUT if you are really stuck and really just want to cover the bare stuff..........get some epoxy primer in a rattle can and be done with it....

If you happen to have POR-15 laying around sure....but I am not aware of the availabilty of small amounts of it - meaning you MAY have to buy a gallon....I don't know if they sell pints or quarts......I would imagine but ya never know.

Just be sure to sand the metal first as well as feather the edges of the peeled paint and make sure whatever is going to flake off has flaked off. The last thing you want is to paint it and peel some more off a day later.

Once its feathered and sanded clean it with a good degreaser and go to town

if youve got the motor out, go ahead and unbolt everything and tie the wiring back and just paint the whole engine bay... might as well do it now while you have the engine out. will save a headache later when you want to paint it with the motor already in

Well I dont really want to paint the whole engine bay... I really just want to cover up the bare metal so that it wont rust... I'm not looking for show quality finish here... and the car is going to stay black... I am trying to do this swap as quickly as possible since my cars are taking up most of the shop space... so it looks like por-15 may be the quickest (since we have some) and easiest option to cover up this bare metal so it wont rust... but I'm still open to all suggestions... keeping in mind that this is going to be done tomorrow.
