That's amazing!! There are some really wild builds on here with some serious ingenuity and creativity and this is one of them. Love it. I almost spit my cofffee out when I read your statement "on this episode of how to ruin an RX-7".... funny stuff! I too am looking forward to seeing some pics or vids of this thing in action.

I'm subscribing to this one as well, super glad to see the amount of fab work you're undertaking. If I had a bigger garage/shop setup I'd be contemplating some tomfoolery like this.
Good luck with the build, you have the community's support even though there are pistons in the engine bay - that's hard to do

Much appreciated, this is why I didn't post on bimmerfourms lol. I could've done this in a garage half the size, don't let floor space hold you up! although it sure makes for better pictures. I'd say the only thing that swayed me away from a complete tube chassis was an uneven garage floor, but you gotta stop somewhere right?

So I got the old beamer fired up, everything sounded good, no leaks, squeaks or smoke.. guess I did something right lol. I lowered the jacks ready for a test ride, push in the clutch and it goes straight to the floor. I figured it needed to be bled again, so I pulled out the power bleeder and went to town. I tried manual bleeding, reverse bleeding, bench bleeding and nothing, no pressure whatsoever. I checked for leaks from the cylinders and the line.. nothing. Maybe there was air getting in the system somehow so I had a new line made and changed out the master and slave with new oem parts. I was running a miata master and BMW oem slave previously, which worked fine in the miata so why it wouldn't work in the 7, no idea. Well, after a month of seemingly endless clutch pressure issues I bought a wilwood clutch master kit from Kmiata. I filled up the reservoir and the pedal pressurized almost immediately, barely even had to bleed it! Funny how the simplest things can cause so much trouble.
I made it down to an underground event in Dallas to dial it in and the car rips! The suspension feels balanced and firm, like it belongs under there. Not sure what I would change haha. Ill have a video out soon!

Right!? you'd think square lights would be a more popular retrofit option on these cars, given their boxy design. I believe the body is close to stock height but the coilover spring perches are just about maxed due to the bigger tires.

Most of it's just in my head and what's on this thread. I didn't account for sag when fitting the subframes, just made the bottoms flush with the bottom of the car and matched up the wheel base to stock. its really just a matter of getting your subframes level and square. I do have some basic dimensions and constraints jotted down somewhere, just PM me.

New to the Club!
RX-8 subframe/suspension swap into 1st gen
hey man I am inspired by your build! Keep up the great work!
I was possibly wondering if you could share the templates and dimensions you cut out in order to do the swap!? If so my number is 269-635-9299 or you can reach me at zielkecaleb6@gmail.com
Hope to hear from you!
