84' 12a Build
hey guys, saying hi and telling you about my project
i recently bought an 84 12a rx7 for 1000, the car is tan
with perfect interior and paint, i climbed under over and
all around it and only found rust in the spare tire depression
oddly enough haha
the guy said the engine was replaced with a lower mileage
12a 2 years ago and he drove it around back then just fine.
well prior to buying this car i was in a local junkyard in wyo
and fell upon some gold, i scored an RB streetport holley
carb kit(manifold, carb, air cleaner ,heat shield) and a full
RB streetport header back exhaust system, all for $100
so now that i have a car to put it on i have of course a
butt load of questions and plans...
first off will the streetport holley kit try to add too much air and
fuel for a stock 12a?
why the heck cant i find a pictorial guide on removing the
dreaded rats nest and all emissions stuff(no emissions law in wyo)?
in the s4 NA water pump housing swap thread i cant find anywhere
where it says it will work on a 12a?
i am still unclear on what to do about the crankcase pressure,
hook up a vacuum line to a one way valve to the carb???
i have searched and searched and i have overloaded my
brain and bing is not helping, any help and guidance to
links is greatly appreciated, thanks everybody

i got it to start a couple times but the rpms wouldnt raise very high, so i tap the gas and it dies, it looks like its spraying alot of fuel into the holley carb.
i put a small electric fuel pump on it and its at 3psi but it still is really rich to the point where it is now currently flooded...
is there a spot where i can lean out the holley with out tearing it down?

Maybe we need some more info on your setup...
What fuel pump, regulator and gauge (or are you running a gauge?) Are you using?
Have you verified 3lbs of fuel pressure to the carb? (sounds low btw)
What size fuel line (feed and return) are you using?
What size holley carb??? street port application I think is 600cfm...is this what you got? Are you using a choke etc...
There is alot of people on here who know tons of stuff about getting your car to run and all of them (most of the time) are more than willing to chime in...just give up some info that they can work with.
My 2cents...verify your fuel pressure to the car. It would be pretty easy to overwhelm a stock 12a with a holley 600cfm or higher. Once you got you pressure right, you should be able to get it to run. Clean the plugs if it has been pig rich. Once its running and warmed up...then you can play with mixture, timing etc... good luck!

i have a carter fuel pump and a ghetto autozone one, the carter one was pushing 4psi on the inline gauge, the autozone one was doing 3psi, the fuel line is a little bigger than stock, i am not where the car is anymore its in my friends garage cause its snowing, and i hate snow.
i dont know how to tell which carb i have i just found the paperwork from racing beat in the junkyard car and the kit was the holley street port kit, my engine is not ported at all so i think this carb may be too big or jetted to big? i am not a carb guru, never torn into one or tuned it i have always had injected cars like my 2 miatas and 280zxt....
i am lost on where to go now, i am going to use the 2nd gen coil on my car and do a much needs tune up, just waiting till friday to go buy more stuff
one thing though is idk where to hook up the oil filler tube vent to vent "crankcase" pressure, the holley doesnt have alot of vacuum spots?

just wont idle down and stay alive sadly i need to figure out

i let the car warm up a litt;e and watch the oil pressure,
is it normal for the oil pressure to be about 35 to 40 psi
at about 1100 rpms?
also it seems like the oil pressure reads really slow and
slowly builds up, is this normal as well? thanks in advance

ya ha ha they look like they have 10 miles on them haha
not now tho i just insured it and drove around the neighborhood,
i now realize tuning a carbeurator is really no that easy i am gonna
have my v8friends that only run holleys help rebuild and rejet it
my only concern is the header was glowing a little bit after driving it
for about 15 minutes, is this normal?

here is the finished project thanks to all the archives!!!

this is my full rb intake/ exhaust, rats nest removal, 2g ignitor,
2g fuseblock, taurus fan blowing setup, and a wire tuck on the
passenger side haha i literally only needed like 2 wires from
that huge clip harness
