I'm really digging that diesel ranger project also. Personally I was even thinking about putting a small 3 cyl Kubota turbo diesel in my Miata for a nice little fuel efficiency project.

So I am taking part of the fuel system apart because I have been having problems with my primary injectors getting partially clogged while driving. This has been happening since before I switched to e-85. My primarys dont have the small inlet screens in them like the secondaries have. Additionally my fuel filters are only 40 micron filters. I am swapping the aeromotive filters to the fuel lab 6 micron filters inorder to have better protection against crap. I am sending my injectors to ID so they can test them and make sure they are functioning properly.
I have also been contemplating switching to the elite becasue, why not? So having freshly serviced injectors as well as knowing they are properly flow matched will help to make the VE tuning that the haltech can do, work better.

^ I'm pretty sure you guys on the east coast are more prone to experiencing probs with inj being clogged than us on the west coast due to the humidity.. but that doesn't really explain the issue before when you were on Octane. I've been on one single stainless Aeromotive 40 Micron since the beginning of the build and still no probs. I check it religiously.... as well as the pump pick up filters in tank... still no change. Not to say they'll last forever...but i'm having a good run so far. Are you positive they're getting clogged? Maybe bad connectivity? ground? I'm sure you've reviewed the logs nah? THose Fuel lab filters are nice. Definitely going with a 7 Micron filter next time the car gets it's annual money waste. haha.

Yea they are definitely getting crap in them. If i remove them and blow them out the car runs smoother. I have dual EGT and can see the difference in temps/ I also change indivifdual injector compensation and can make it run smoother when it starts acting up. My theory is from when I welded the tank up there may still be some slag that I could not get out when I cleaned everything. This should solve the issue.

The injectors have been cleaned and dynamically flow tested. The reason for the delay was my inability to ship them because I am an idiot. They were definitely dirty. ID does a nice job of laying out the info so you can understand what you are looking at and actually call you to discuss the results of the testing. It was a 20 min long conversation. I should receive them tonight and install them in a few days along with the fuel lab filters. I hope I can drive the car again this weekend!

Any reason as to why you're running two filters parallel to a single line? I mean I can see two filters being better than one, but why not just plumb them either inline or put one on the return if you're worried about keeping your fuel clean :P

I put them in parallel because I wanted to double my filter surface area. Since they are both the same micron rating it makes more sense to put them like that.
It is the same setup as what I had but uses a filter with a far smaller element screen.

I had 40 micron in there. Went to 6 micron which is what ID reccommends.
Here is the sheets that ID sends you after they are cleaned.
Below are the ID 2000 injectors which I use 4 injectors.
Pre-clean results. You can see there is a wide flow deviation

This is post clean

So basically what I did since there is a wide flow variation at low pulse widths I Used the Green and orange injector in one rotor and used the red and yellow injectors in the other rotor. This allows each injector flow deviation to cancel eachother bringing the average deviation much closer to 0%.
They basically told me what I already knew minus the actual flow deviation. Their website has tons of good info with data to back up their statments. In one of their articles they mention using a 6 micron filter as any particles larger than that can cause injector flow problems. At the time i made the origional filter setup I did not know about the fuel lab filters or they were not available to the public. Now I should have a good relaible filter setup for many years.
I am planning on upgrading the the Haltech Elite once they update their firmware to support the RX-8 trigger wheel. After I get the elite setup I plant to go to about 30psi and see that my turbo and motor can do.

OIL, Oil everywhere
Well 2 months ago I was driving the car in a parking lot and the block cracked. Must have been stressed from earlier. I think I caught it in time so no extra internal damage occurred due to lack of oil. Gonna order a new front iron and have it ported to match what I have and then pull and rebuild motor this winter. I have not touched anything yet since I dont plan on working on it in a few months.

^ Yea it does suck. On the bright side I will be able to see what the internal components look like and see if there are some internal issues I may have to worry about.
Lately I have been working on my truck and focusing on things other than my FD, but towards the end of the winter i will start working on the car again and fix a few minor issues that I am not happy abut and mainly just improving my setup rather than changing it all the time as years past.

So, time for an update.
I went to the carlisi meet on nov. 15th. Had a great time tracking the FD. All in all it was a great day, a bit cold but a lot of fun to meet up with a bunch of RX7 owners to close out the season.
I was able to get some pics though so I will post them in my next post when I get a chance to upload them.

Same thing happen to my friend couple years ago, seems to be pretty common on higher power single turbo car.
