PandazRX-7: Dedicated FD Time Attack Build!
#151
Rear I ran stock calipers with Hawk DTC-60 pads. Not sure if I'll change it...if I do maybe bigger rotor with Racing Brake kit.
I'll be ditching ABS with all new brake hard lines and a proportioning valve inside the cockpit.
Dampers I'm probably going with custom Penske or Ohlins.

There is a set of top end Ohlins FS at the moment. If I hadn't already made the investment I would have bought them in a heartbeat.

Amazing build BTW! We may be using some of your build as inspiration. Loving everything you've done so far. Definitely looking forward to seeing more progress pictures.

Thanks for all the feedback guys.
Crispy- Thanks for the heads up.
Gordon- Actually JRZ might be an option, which from what I understand is pretty much the same as a Moton as far as design, parts and I believe one is a spin off the other (related owners I've read). JRZ North America is local to me so from what I remember after talking to Frank Chen, he rebuilds them here (not overseas).
If I do the Ohlins or Motons it will be a custom set-up made by John Mueller from Muellized who I met through Justin Pawlak. He's also local. From what I've gathered he's pretty well known in the Evo crowd and definitely knows what he's doing when it comes to tuning suspension.
Penske I hear Anze out in east coast is great and there's also a place in NorCal that I just can't remember the name of.
Dan- You have me wondering what part of my build was up to par to inspire your build. Good to know I'm doing something right. Now hook me up with a AP BBK and some J hook goodness!
More updates soon... had some fittings welded up for cooling and fuel. Will post pics up soon.

Got around to mounting the AEM coils on the PS/AC bracket to be nice and close to the plugs. Decided to use metric M6 bolts and drill & tap the bracket to mount in 3 locations. The center bolt came short so I took some aluminum rod, drilled and tapped it all the way through to make a nice fixed spacer in the center for the coil to mount to. A lot of grinding, cutting and sanding to make sure the coils don't touch the bracket... now it's ready for fresh powdercoat.

For the front brakes I ran AP racing CP5200 calipers with Coleman rotor rings and Performance Friction 01 Pads. Looking to upgrade to the newer CP8350's with the SBG kit.

Big update:
IT'S A BOY!!!!! We welcomed our second child into this world last Saturday morning! I'm sure progress on this build will even get slooooower now. But you never know, maybe sleepless nights will get me over to the garage for some late night buildage.
Back to the 7... small update:
Had -20AN welded on the water pump housing for radiator. Also welded -6AN's for the turbo coolant lines. Now these pieces will also be ready for powder coat.

Thanks for all the comments everyone... last few weeks have been super stressful with sleepless nights, work and trying to get some things done here and there on the FD. Here are some pics of my progress...
Coolant temperature sensor and coolant pressure sensor with welded bung.
Brand new oil pan from Malloy Mazda with new oil temperature switch... I welded the bung in the stock level sensor spot and powder coated the whole pan.
FPR with fuel pressure sensor... will figure out a clever mounting location later.
UIM with double throttle butterfly delete, center divider chopped off and smoothed out for better flow... and also drilled out the top vent more for looks.
All unnecessary holes welded shut and AN fitting welded on for FPR, BOV, brake booster... Had to leave a nipple for the MAP sensor and one spare in case.
Also planning to port out my primary runners out to match the secondaries on both the UIM and Xcessive LIM then I'll ceramic coat both and TB with Cerakote 1800F coating... here are the free samples they sent me. I'm leaning towards the 2nd from top which Tungsten.
And finally had Chris Ludwig make the custom length & boot spark plug wires for the AEM coils... I was so glad my measurements were spot on with shortest possible wires.
