My love RoX7e

My love RoX7e
Picked up my 93 rx7 this past Saturday, my friend had one Agee years back so why not get one. I like the power and style. Background on RoX7e is previously owner stopped driving her because of bluish smoke out the exhaust one day when he started it up. He said he intended to fix it but priorities change with the birth of his kid. So after 9 years of sitting he finally decided to sell it. Still had fluids the interior is decent the bod has a bit of surface rust and clear coat pealing.
When I got her first thing I did was get a battery and check compression, couldn't get a ready with a piston compression tester but I do hear compression. I'm assuming that it runs if I do a tune up, I want to get it started to see what I have to work with. I went ahead and drained the gas and engine oil. Next I got it jacked up to check the brake rotors if I can turn them. The left front caliper wasn't budging so I'm going to go ahead and rebuild them just to be safe. Took the pistons out today at work and started to sand the calipers to be painted.
This is going to be a slow build, I'm not sure if I want to pull the motor or just run it as is (if it's good). If I do pull I'm planning on doing a bridge port.

Why would you want to just jump into a bridge ported engine? If you want my advice, i'd just get it running and do some basic bolt ons for a while. It's more than enough fun with just that. I don't see why you'd want to open up the ports so large right off the bat. You plan on going with a full drag car or something?

Honestly that was suggested to me, I haven't fully researched porting yet do my mind isn't made up. I'm not going to drag it and power goals aren't set, but I'm in the idea of just bolt ons until I can fully understand the car. You will soon find out that I can be indecisive a lot haha. Main goal is to get her running after that body work (get rid of rust and throw a nice pant job). New set of wheels cause the one that are on it are U G L Y, thinking of rpf1.

RPF1s are nice. He is right. Even if you had to pull the motor for a build, you might start out with a streetport and some efini twins because that will be plenty of power. BP right now wouldn't be smart. Its a great car with factory ports. Fun to Drive, Great to look at! Have fun with it before you start the headache of a build.

Then I'll go with that, thanks for the advice. Just ordered my rebuild kit for the calipers, decided to just rebuild the fronts as I haven't really inspected the rears yet. I'm going to go to walmart today and get some distilled water and super flush and gas can so I'll be ready to turn her over this weekend. Is distilled necessary? I know that tap water will rust the engine but s means of flushing the system would tap work just s well? Not trying to cut corner but who wouldn't want to save a few bucks.

If you want to read up on a fun easy mod after you get it running then read up on the poor mans non-sequential mod. That's a good place to start before single turbos and extended engine ports.

Not too far into sanding, I need to get a dremel as it seems mine got lost in the move. Pistons are don't I just want to touch them up.

Alright so got some oil and gas in, tried to start her up but nothing. I wasn't hearing the fuel pump turning on so I checked it out. Lines didn't want to come off after being on for 21 years but managed to get it off the this is what I found.
Not looking good for this old pump. New pump and filter and I'll try again, going to go ahead with a walbro 255.

but anyways, I agree with the previous guys on just getting the thing running first before you plan to take on the world. A stock and mildly modded FD is more than enough fun to last you for your first time. I always like to start small and work up. That gives you time to not only master the car as you go but when you do finally get bored and used to the power you have somewhere to go. I went 10 years at near stock levels and loved EVERY second of it, now I've got a nice new single turbo setup that I'm looking forward to playing with over the next 10 years :-)
