Opened the engine, now cleaning and getting it ready for porting and other small mods.

Makes sense to ensure it will be able to handle whatever turbo is thrown at it when I finally get one, rather than blow up on tuning.

I'm thinking an aggressive street port or half bridge, studs, and possibly sending the rotating assembly for lightening and balancing. Plus single piece apex seals.
KISS

Some sort of street port, whatever apex seals fit with your power goals and send it.

Maybe some stronger studs if they are actually stronger. Just saw some broken studs from a vendor that were not...

I don't know if I actually trust anyone anymore for lightening and balancing. If it treated you well to 120k, freshen things up and get it running again.

Housings, rotors, and counterweights are with Adam at REC. Getting some work done while I'm porting the irons - refinishing housings, lighten/balance/clearance rotors & CWs. I bought the templates for a full Bridge, but for now I'm just using the main ports and not adding the eyebrow.

Trying to find good pictures of spots to smooth and "port" in the oiling system. Plenty of writeups...not so much on pictures.

North Country NY also brings serious winter, so I will be going over my wiring project and double checking work before finalizing harnesses

@gracer7-rx7 I just noticed your picture. I'd love to get to drive the corkscrew someday!

Come on out! The weather is fine
Hit up Lime Rock and the NJ tracks in the meantime.
Laguna is a great track but difficult to make sound in a lot of cars. There are actually a few guys that rent Spec Miatas during track days if you ever want to check it out. Lesher Motorsports

Adam at REC has completed my Housings and Rotors! He sent me pictures and we talked a bunch, great guy.
Rotors and CWs are balanced and lightened, couple questionable spots on rotor faces suggesting, as mentioned in the "is this engine worth it" thread I started, this engine at some point prior to me, ate a piece of metal/lost a seal, but only on 1 face of each rotor and they're still pretty good otherwise

Housings.....look amazing after being refinished....on spark plug mountain. However, above the exhaust port there are some deep scratches that couldn't be fixed. So I'll need to keep an eye on em once I rebuild. It's a low pressure area, not a lot happening there, but it's not perfect and some concern. This also backs up the theory that this engine had an...issue prior to me.

When I was driving it, I didn't feel any problems or have any codes popping up, had no clue about any rebuilds before me. Was sold to me as "original motor" with 115,000 miles. But past is the past, it's apart and going forwardish.

My exhaust port work...he said I did "a reasonably good job for someone doing his own porting", I used Racing Beat's template which opens earlier, Adam said he usually goes later but it's my first time porting a Rotary and I didn't do "bad" so I'll take it. Ha!

Weather is finally better and I pulled the trigger and bought the seals needed to reassemble to engine from Atkins.
Chose their cryo 2mm apex seals, cryo side seals, and cryo corner seals, with their seamless coolant seals (along with all the o-rings and gaskets). Looking to slap some paint on the plates this weekend and next weekend start assembling.
Still a long way from firing up, but having the keg together will be nice.
