Powder Coating

A few powder coating shots. I went with a black metallic that looks pretty black until it's under light (see second pic). Then the flakes in the powder coating kind of pop out at you.

That would suck.
If you are speaking of me, this won't happen. I've loved the car since the day I purchased it in 1994.

No, the Wolf unit works very well. It is actually very simple to use. Cobined with my Innovate datalogger (a must in my opinion for anyone who is serious with tuning), I was able to do tuning myself. Had a pretty good tune on the car (with serious help from Dean Colver) but the car just wouldn't hold the boost it was supposed to.

Hah, good quote! I don't know, the road less traveled has always worked for me. I guess it's just my entrepreneurial side that makes me get involved in projects like this.

Cosmo twins are the original twins that came with the 20B. Pettit takes them and them reworks and balances them for better efficiencey. In my case, they just didn't perform at the boost level I wished. They are very good for about 10 PSI of boost.

FYI - have a set of them in my garage with the 20B manifold. They are brand new, not rebuilt units. Of course, the secondary unit is blown due to me trying to get them to hold more boost). The shaft completely split in two, saving the unit from extensive damage. The primary is perfect as well as the manifold.

Anyone want to buy the set?

Sooooo... who's up for suicide watch when the motor blows six months from now?

I definitely admire your committment and passion - after two years of dropping money and getting dicked around, I cut my losses. I miss the car, but not the headaches.

At this point, if I get back to RX-7s it will be as an FD LS1 owner. <ducks>

Yep, the FD only has room for two or three baby seats right? Seroiously, congrats on the child.

We'll hook up once the car comes back.

wow....i learn a lot from this thread. Questions, i know this does not involve on the issues. But did someone try to install a 4 rotor on the fd?

i'm interested because i know of an engineers that is doing that conversion now in Arizona. I've been trying to convince her to send me photos of her project that she currently involves in. Once i receive it, i'm going to upload it on this forum.

David, here are some early fab pics of my car, I have since started changing it to something VERY custom. My manifold is made from Iconel.

if im correct you blew TWO secondaries right? (or am i thinking of someone else?). i cant understand why pettit didnt run them in sequential (only need a few outputs for solenoids from the ecu). either way... what all do you have. the secondary CHRA is shot correct? got pics of the rest? what do you want for them (cough) i mean the rest thats NOT blown feel free to PM me. -heath

Nope, blew just one secondary. What you are probably thinking of is Pettit replaced one unit for me thinking something was worng with the unit. What I ended up with was a new set of turbos. Let me take some pics of what I have and I'll pm you.

Attached are pics of the twin turbo unit. Note the oil in the secondary housing. The shaft of the secondary unit literally sheared in half. Interestingly, the inside blades of the secondary are in good shape. The outside blades are toast though. The good news on the turbos is the primary has no shaft play that I can detect and the manifold is pristine, no cracks at all. Also note the blades of the primary are in excellent shape. The pics kind of make them look chopped.

The primary unit and manifold (the secondary is removed):

More twin turbo pics

Here are pics of the blown secondary unit. You can grab the inside turbo blades and spin the unit - the outside blades don't move, hence the sheared shaft. Note the ouside blades are toast. I'm not sure if you need an entire cartridge or if you can replace the shaft and outside blades only.

Misc. twin turbo parts

I also have piping, the spring (think it's wound to 10 lbs.), heat shields, oil lines, gaskets, bolts, etc., and two K&N filters.

FD alternator

Checking the inventory, I also notice I have a new, refurbished Bosch FD alternator. Was on the car for about 1 month. This was mistakingly taken off and replaced only later to find out I had a wiring issue. Not that I'm bitter or anything
