I don't think you are a moron at all. I think you are smart for taking the car apart as I definitely see some things that would need attention to make the car reliable. That wiring at a disaster and I would be embarrassed if I paid a "shop" to do work like that.
BTW, it is too late to edit the posts. PM me the pic links you want fixed and I can do it for you.
To fix the cracked weld; grind it out, reweld, and make a brace for that monster turbo or for whatever turbo you decide to use.

good luck, exterior looks ok, after seeing the engine bay I would look every area of that whole car.
Clean up that turbo manifold around the crack then re weld it.
caution you with chemicals you use on anything you will be welding though so think ahead.
ps. why the hell are there chunks of **** in the LIM runner gasket?
