Hey Jake,
Pics of our new 5 gal tank. Car weighed 2505 at Blytheville with 10 lbs balast. Tank worked fine but we had alignment issues...self inflicted...had suspension apart after Natls and did not have time to realign.

You Thompsons never cease to amaze. That tank is great! I can't believe it fits so stealthy with the bins seemingly in place. Nice work. Pictures of my motor build coming soon, including port work, clutch, fuel, and spark upgrades. Then I'll just need a decent suspension... Hmmmm, I think I got this whole tuning thing backwards. Isn't the suspension supposed to come first...

hey Jake, what did you decide to do as far as turbo options? Last I talked with you you still had the rat's nest since you were contemplating going back to sequential twins.

The latest apex seal failure did not send the seals into the single-turbo, so the turbo is going to stay. The twins are gone for good. Going in there this time for a rebuild, everything related to the twins is getting pulled permanently to save weight. Also, sadly, my A/C is coming out too. Not that is had worked for the last 2 years. The car was always a miserable hot box anytime traffic was near and now it will always be that way. Even if they bring back freon.

Yep...suspension is first in our game but you gotta have a motor too.
Anxious to see your motorbuild pics....what apex seals blew? OEM seals?

The tank install worked out well but WAY to much effort to keep the interior intact as the rules require.

pics coming soon. the oem mazda seal blew, but it was my fault 93/100 oct mix at 17+psi pinning the rev limiter into fuel cut on a fast autox straight. I am going with RA Black seals and springs this time.

hey Jake, I might actually be able to compete with you guys this season, mind letting me know where you got your spoiler, the mazda, mazdaspeed, tirerack, and hawk pad, decals/magnets and class numbers and letters from? I figure I should start looking into getting my car appropriately riced out.

The wing elements and end plates I got on craigslist- APR GT2. I made custom mounts and risers: http://hamfistracing.blogspot.com/20...fist-2010.html

The hawk & tirerack stickers SCCA has at tours and pros at tech.

Hoosier & Mazdaspeed you need to apply online. Following contingency links via SCCA.com/solo. Hoosier stickers are free and mazda charges for the 3 stickers, which you can order at cost once you sign up with them.

Hey Jake.....pics of our finished diff cradle. Made two units....Dan and us. Weighs 6.5 pounds, Carter selected the "color". If you decide you want one I may be able to talk the fab shop into cutting another.

We are not going to Dixie this year( see you are not either ). We have not finished our single conversion...have at least a month to go.

Good luck finishing the build. Honestly, there is a lot to worry about in SSM knowing you two have been wrenching and engineering all winter.

The diff cradle looks beefy, but not sure why it needs to be upgraded. The OEM rear diff supports aren't up to the task of repeated ProSolo launches?

Yeah, dixie was a little far last year and colder than I would have thought. I won't be treking out there again. Are you both planning to come up to NJ for the ProSolo this year?

Tom, mind shooting me a price? I might actually be interested.
Jake, its not that the diff can't stand repeated launches, its that it can't stand repeated wheel hop. A diff cradle/brace can help alleviate that problem.

Reason for the diff brace is Pinion crawl; it flexes the diff housing and can eventually lead to this:

(this is my diff that snapped at the 2010 Nationals and the reason we developed the brace)

I always thought that the cast iron diff on the RX7 was strong enough to deal with <400 rwhp but I was wrong. Both Andy and Erik have busted theirs also. The brace helps support the area that breaks; now we will just be snapping axles

Tweakit Racing will be doing a group buy on them as soon as I get time to pay the money and build the tread .

I read most of this thread maybe I missed it but what rear diff ratio are you using for autox ..?I have searched over and over but everyone had differnt opinions probbaly depends on courses in their region... I would like to try 4.77 as most of the courses near me seem to be short lower speed but I am afraid I will have to start shifting into 3rd if I go to a more open coure... Have you driven with the 4.44 does it have a drastically different feel from stock 4.10? Thanks and sorry if you already said this I ...

A 4.77 and 9k rev limiter will get you to 72 mph which means you will only have to shift to third on a very fast course.

Congrats again on the win in NJ Jake, see you in Oscoda, MI!!
