djseven builds one sexy FD
Now that my 94 R2 is "done", I figured I would buy another FD that I would actually drive and not treat as a garage queen. Hopefully I will do a good job of updating this thread as the build progresses and I will try to share a lot of the information I have learned over the years. Most if not all of the info is already here on the forum but this way I will document as much as I can in one thread. While the car will end up singled I want to play around with the stock twins a little to demonstrate just how capable the car really is with minimal modifications.
End Goal: A FD that can trap 130MPH in the 1/4 mile, idle smoothly at 900 rpms with AC blowing cold, and is spot on reliable that can be daily driven if I were to choose.
This beauty popped up local so I couldn't pass it up. Its a 93 Montego/black base model with 71k original miles. Car has sat for nearly a decade so I'm prepared to find some surprises as I dig in.
Engine plans: Lightened, Clearanced, balanced rotating assembly. Small intake porting and nearly stock exhaust ports. EFR 9180 kit from Addicted Performance. 20lbs on pump and water/meth.
Body: GTC Front bumper, Feed Front fenders and Pettit Rear flares.
I'm not trying to reinvent the wheel here. Just wanting to pass on some of the knowledge I have picked up over the years while saving an old mistreated FD.

If you would answer your phone you would know the deal.
EFR 9180, Koyo N-Flow, GTC front bumper, Pettit Flares and IC all ordered. Rotors will arrive tomorrow at Addicted Performance for Lightening and Side Clearancing.
Apparently the Feed front fenders are back ordered over 20 weeks from Shine so looks like they may not make the cut.

The manifold and downpipe will be built in house by Addicted Performance. The IC will be a large M2/Pettit Style stock mount because I am old school. The AC is important to me in my old age.
ECU is up in the air, either PFC or Adaptronic. Leaning towards the PFC just for the fact that I hate aftermarket gauges visible in the car and the PFC is about 10 gauges in one easy to hide controller.

Sweet man! I'm interested to see how this turns out.
We need some more "before" pics of the car.
What's the rationale for clearancing the rotors? I know the principle of it, just wondering why you're looking to do it.
IMHO I'd go PowerFC. It's not the world's most powerful ECU, but you plug it in and start driving. It's not something you're constantly having to fiddle with.

Side Clearancing helps prevent corner seals from sticking if there is some flex of the e-shaft causing the top corner of the rotors to touch the irons. Really isn't needed for my boost or power goals but was included in the lightening service so why not.
Ill likely stick with the PFC as its familiar and capable of what I need it to do.

Not much of an update but the engine is out of the car and broken down. The one nice surprise so far is the engine was a low mileage reman that was not blown. Housings and irons are in excellent condition.
Addicted Performance has my turbo kit being wrapped up shortly and my rotors have been clearanced, lightened and balanced and on the way back to me now. I also picked up a Sake Bomb oil cooler kit and HKS twin power from Addicted performance.
I need to strip down all the accessories and get them sent over to RotaryResurrection.com to be powder coated wrinkle black. Next on the agenda is the remove ABS(purchased Alex Rodriguez kit) and really clean up the engine bay.

Though not a lot of progress on the FD I did get my boat wrapped and installed new gauges. Need to address the interior next. Pic of gauges is before the entire conversion was done but shows the older speedo gauge. Additional grainy bonus pic of me doing a little redneck surfing behind the boat.
