IL Billys 93 black on black base

So I finally bit the bullet and picked up a financial disaster. I purchased it from a local guy for a decent price, no motor/harness/ecu/trans. I have a deal worked out with another car for an engine but Ill get to that later

Here she is when I brought her home

As it turns out, it had an aftermarket alarm in it, this had to go.. so I guess the dash is coming out (I broke the enter a/c vent in the process... **** i know.)

Before I tore it up:

The alarm is down behind the dead pedal/fluse panel.. what a mess:

A lot of broken tabs on pieces that Ill have to repair/replace. Im only 4 hours into the entire car so not a whole lot going on in the thread yet. Im most likely selling the flyboy 3 guage pod and the 3 defi guages (oil pressure, coolant temp, egt). Going to shoot for something a touch closer to stock.. glove box with warning LEDs? Undecided. But Ill try to take pics and update when I work on the car. I have a whole underhood to prep before I get the engine in february.

Nice find. I would keep the Defi gauges. They actually are quite stock looking and they're also expensive gauges.

Congrats Bill! I am glad that you picked this car up since I know that you'll set it right. If I had the garage space I would of picked it up myself. I'll take that 3 pod off of your hands. I have the speaker cover on my FD if you want to work something out.

Im still on the fence on whether i get rid of it or keep it. My A pillar has holes in it from an autometer pod set up thats no longer in the car. So im tempted to put another A pillar set up back in it, switch the steering wheel cover back to stock (it has the single pod steering wheel one) and sell the flyrx7 pod. but im not in a rush so to speak.

40-50 tops. Probably only 10 of us that are on the forum/enthusiast types. Really no area with more than another. Why ask?

Good question, I never see any others out on the road! I'm in Arlington Heights and only know of one in palatine, one in Des Plains, and now Boostd414.

I need another FD owner to come help me beat up on others at track events

Quite a bit, I have met at least 10 owners at local meets, they are all on this forum, and that doesn't include anyone that has posted in this thread. There's actually a guy with a single turbe BB that lives a few blocks from me, crazy how we have never seen each other on the road.

Oh and I'm from Bolingbrook.

Well out west we have me (BB base), dfoster514 (BB R1 PEP), and ooRX7 (brandon at cj motorsports, SSM base). Theres a gentleman who lives around the corner from where i do my work that has 2 FDs, both black. 1 is RHD but isnt titled or registered to drive. Hes an older guy who just likes the cars. The 3 of us I mentioned here should all be fairly close in HP but myself and dfoster are going 93 +meth, where as brandon is e-85. All 3 are on different turbos and all 3 went for a different "style" so to speak.

Its not my first rx7, or even my second.... or third.. I think this clocks in at #8, but it is my first FD.

nice start. let me know if you need a stock steering wheel and airbag. i just replaced mine with a protege (i think) wheel and don't need it. i'd definitely recommend the protege wheel. it really adds a nice update to the interior and still has that oem look.

i was wondering, what did you pay for the car? sorry if that's alittle too personal. feel free not to answer. i've just wondered what shells usually go for now. the body looks to be in great shape tho. no dents, dings, scratches that i can see and you get black interior so you won't have to worry about swapping out old tan pieces.

is the gauge surround and shifter surround painted? just wondering because mine looks really glossy too and i'm not sure if they're painted or they came like that.

Most of the surrounds are painted gloss black. I paid 5000 for it. Did more work tonight but I'm at the bar drinking. Ill post the official update later.

Rear bins are all sorts of scratched and faded, so plastidip or bumper paint?

Im testing the plastidip on one of the bin covers.. doesnt look good when its fresh, but as it dries it starts to look proper. This is only 1 coat so far.

Got in some more time today. Probably 10ish hours into the interior.

The chrome around the gauge bezel was flaking or poor so I shot it in black:

The over the steering colum gauge holder was never attached. It was missing the portion the lower clips lock into so I built up areas with epoxy and sanded it down to clip in, Hard to tell but its going nicely, just need to build up a little more in a couple spots, sand it down and itll be as good as new (will need to be painted black).

Both of the bin tops are drying (which is why the left one still looks splotchy) but im impressed at how the plastidip came out!

1 thick coat on the bins

Ive cleaned and protetant coated all of the interior pieces and started putting them back in. Forward progress!

Thats all for now. May get in some more time during this week but it seems im missing one speaker behind the driver seat so Ill need to buy some before I put those panels back in.

I also re-ran the battery relocate wire through where the AC lines used to come through the firewall to underneath the passenger bin. The PO had it in the middle of the rear hatch area up under the strut bar.
