tuning ?

im not a tuner but i have a ? about methanol injection and tuning first about my setup its a 93 with r-85 turbo and all the supporting stuff makes 417whp@ 14/15psi on 93 octane but with my tune i am able to add 103 octane and turn the boost up to 20psi and no have to mess with tune or anything just add gas raise boost!
now my ?
with methanol injection is it possible to drive the car on my 14 psi 93 octane setting w/o meth on, and then just turn on the meth and raise boost like when i add in 103?

Yes it is, meth would essentially raise your octane so its like you are running on a race fuel, but it depends on home much meth you add, you can't just throw it all together and hope for the best, it would needed to be tuned just like any other fuel.

i know it would need to be retuned i just wasnt sure if the map would still work for 93 octane only, or if the map was specifically for 93 with meth

you could be wasting fuel and losing a bit of power running it untuned which is also unsafe, not nearly as unsafe as running straight pump though but race fuel has a bit more safety buffer. at $100 for a tank of race fuel it really is worth it to get it tuned for it, with the AI installed you can just get it retuned once and keep the AI on though.

im going to get it retuned thats not the question the question was on the new methanol tune can i run 93 octane w/o the meth on and when i want to turn the boost up turn on the meth
or do i have to have the methanol on all the time for the car to run properly on the new tune even on low boost (14 psi)

you can have the methanol kick in at 14 psi, that way its using the same map

tuning is always a good subject. most of the 200 pages of threads in the turbobuick.com alcohol, nitrous and propane section are on tuning...

as to your question:

as you know you will need to retune once you add an alcohol system. you will need to remove pump fuel from your base fuel map as the alcohol starts to flow. it is up to you as to when you want it to start. if, for example, you'd like to run only pump til one bar and then start alcohol that would work fine. you would adjust the "initial" setting on the Alkycontrol system to that spot on your boost map. BTW, i have found the alcohol has started in all of my logged runs within one tenth of a psi! how's that for being accurate.

so, above one bar you remove pump and run the alcohol. you tune it for 11.5 and you are set. if you decide to run above one bar you push the "test" button and the engine will sputter for a second and you know you are armed and dangerous.

with your turbo alcohol is magic as your turbo really rocks at high boost and you can wring it out on methanol.
