Ordered an SM4 and 500R.

I broke down an ordered the hardware today. I'm planning on running 4 independent coils, possibly coil-on-plug. My distributor is recommending that I go with a modified CAS (2 triggers, 1 sync), what are you guys running?

Will it be running a trigger at 0 and at 180? Get ahold of frobe on here, I believe he is running an unmodified cas s4/s5 with sm4... You may be able to get a base cal from him to see how he set up the triggers.

We are running a 13B PP with stock unmodified S4/S5 cas and SM-4, 500R and 4 coils. I will get hold of the cal file and help you out (setup was a little strange).

Regards,
Frode

Excellent, thanks.

My support contact told me that the reason he wants me to only run 2 triggers at 0 and 180, has to do with the fact that the SM4 samples MAP on the trigger points (I obviously don't have the SM4 firmware's source in front of me, so I can't verify this). As I understood it, his opinion was that having more triggers than 'cylinders' doesn't give the SM4 the best MAP reading.

you can use the stock cas unmodified. Stock cas is magnetic.
Most guys like using hall effect, including myself. Whenever possible i build my own triggers using hall effect sensors since they are much more reliable and accurate.

That's if you were building a sensor off the crankshaft. If using the CAS it spins at half speed so you will need 4 teeth at 0, 90, 180, 270

Yah, I should have made it more clear, two triggers per engine revolution (i.e. 4 CAS teeth). I've been looking at the setup some local rotary guys have been using with their TEC 2 units (i.e. 60-2), and it wouldn't be that bad to setup something similar (with a different trigger wheel).

enzo250, whose hall effect sensors do you use? Cherry?

what do you plan to do with this car? Is it an all out race car?
Or just daily driver/semi race car. You should be fine with stock cas unmodified.

We have never had any problems with using the stock cas and reluctor interface.

This car is a stripped-down canyonr-runner, that I mess around with. If I went hall, it'd be because I think it's cool, not because I need it.

frode, regarding the stock CAS, that's great. What settings do you use for the 12/1 tooth configuration?

I am such an idiot, until now I didn't realize that the cas spins at half speed! And on that note I think you can set it up like this...

12 cylinder 2 stroke, four coil firing at 0,0,180,180 for ignition base angles, 0,180,0,180 for fuel base angles. Don't mind the ERROR warning in the startup screen...

You can use coil 2 and 4's ign trims to set up your split timing based on load and rpm's!

Wiring is pretty strait forward, Autronic is rad...
