Here we go

I just laid down ~7K on an IHI RX6 single kit with AEM + wideband with gauge and RX7store's ultimate fuel kit (1600 secondaries, fuel rail, regulater, Nippon Denso fuel pump).
The engine is being streetported polished and assembled now.

As soon as everything comes together I will be visiting frequently to exchange tuning information and look for suggestions and help.

Just wondering how many FD's on the board are actually using the AEM??

Good luck with this Mike, AEM tuning knowledge is scare and even harder to come by than real nude pics of Sandra Bullock

What shop are you going to do the dyno tuning?

Let me know if you need help. I know Jason Siebel, he tuned my FD. It also helps that hes the guy that designed the unit . Just PM me sometime if you have trouble.

Thanks guys.
Not sure where I want to take the car to tune yet. I already have the AEM software on my laptop and the base map for 1600 secondaries. I'm studying the users manual and making sure I understand everything before starting the car up. It would be nice to have 500 hp on tap.

Save yourself a major headache and sell that AEM boat anchor and just get a Power FC. Buying that POS was the worst mistake I ever made with my car.

Elaborate

Can you elaborate on why it was such a POS. Just making a statement like that is not really helping anyone out. When did you have the AEM, was it before all the updates on the maps or was it with the original map? Did you have it properly setup and tuned?
The AEM is not a plug and play like the PFC, atleast until they get the base maps just right, which they seem to have ironed out most of the bugs.
I am considering an AEM over the PFC for many reasons. Complete tunability without hacks like a Datalogit or seperate hand controller. Integrated Wide-band system, knock retard system, complete fuel, timing, and idle maps, additional outputs for NOS, boost control, etc.
Given there isnt the support of the PFC but there wasnt support for it when it first came out either. If people just say its a "boat anchor" and dont work with it then there will never be any support for it.

I have studied the early versions (pre 0.94) of the AEM software and the latest (1.11), there is a drastic difference between the features and capability. As with any application, robustness and functionality is an inverse relationship. While the PFC is a very good stand alone, but it's old technology and lacks in functionality.
Looking at the AEM software, I can understand why some people would have difficulties in setting it up, it is TOO flexible. It is not for the faint of heart. You'll almost need a college degree just to know how to properly setup and tune the ecu. But as SidewaysR1 said, supply and demand dictates how much support is provided to the RX-7 community, if no uses it then no one will support it.

Its not that much of a headache. You just need to keep trying until you get it right. Luckily for me I had Jason Siebels from AEM dyno tune it for me and Jeff McCall from Rotary Power iron anything out about the engine that Jason didn't know. Starts up fine, it works great now.

Well it was a while back, I think my serial number was in the 20s. I played with it and still could not get the car to run well enough to even drive down my driveway. The other problem is that there is no one in the southeast that I know of that can tune this thing. If you are lucky enough to be on the west coast then it is no problem. I agree on the supply and demand theory, but if AEM wanted to sell more of these for the RX-7 they would provide better support for their RX-7 products. When it comes to rotaries, I know of very few people that have been pleased with their ignition booster, wideband, or even their EMS.

I'm very good friends with Jason S. as well and can tell you the AEM is not a POS. I have it on my FD and it's on my Mustang as well. The 7 is down but the Mustang is my daily driver. It's supercharged and it runs great. The only problem with it is the new v1.11 software has a little glitch every now and then between 2-3k rpm. I think it's just on the Mustangs so it shouldn't be a hassle to you guys. It's also going on my AE86 shortly.

We have it on about 10 Supras here in Las Vegas. They all have incredible results. One of them happens to be the 2nd fastest street supra in the world. That should change back to the #1 fastest after this weekend. It's a street car for sure as it's driven on the street and still has a/c and p/s.

For some reason the AEM didn't get the support it should've in the rotary community. I think it would've done alot better had not everyone on the forum called Jason a liar when he posted up his hp #'s. Oh well, it's doing well to say the least. It's going to catch on better in the rotary community soon i think.
