Getting An AEM

So I've decided that I'm gonna go the AEM route which is gonna run 2k for the AEM EMS unit + wideband O2 sensor + install(I know it's plug n play) + tuning(also includes retuning for free for life). Just wondering if there are any major drawbacks to this unit even though most say it is their favorite or the best to use. Only thing my mechanic has told me is that since I live in Nevada and the weather is very drastic here in Reno that sometimes I might go out to my car and it will take a while to start in the winter time if I'm running off a summer tune(which he will retune for free). Just seeing if there is anything else you guys have to say about this unit.

Or do I mean wideband A/F sensor? Sorry the alcohol has affected my train of thought.

Wait wait wait... "summer tune"? "winter tune"? That doesnt sound right, any aftermarket EMS should be tuned for all conditions. I know a guy in St. Johns New Foundland, Canada, with a Haltech installed Hyundai Tiburon, and his map works in the winter and in the summer, if any tweaks need to be done, its just in the compensation maps, but the thing should work under all conditions, specially if the tuner is good enough to set them properly. It takes time and work mind you, but it can be done.

And, since the AEM has A TON! of compensation maps there is no reason why you shouldnt be able to drive it all year round with no "retuning" required. After its all been setup right of course.

Im not trying to bash anybody's work here, just making sure you know the full capabilities of your system.

Hehe well I think I'm stating it wrong. Not a full retune but just changing something in the maps. I really don't know much about tuning ECU's so you'll have to excuse me if I make no sense. I just know when I was talking to him about it he was just giving me some instances that might happen cause here in Reno we have over 100 degrees F change from summer time to winter.

Alrighty then, no harm done, hope you get the best of the system you get.

With proper tuning it can work WAY better than a stock ECU ever could.

Hehe yeah. I know it's a lil more expensive then the PFC but everyone agrees that this is an overall better unit with much more capabilities. Besides I know someone who is running this unit on his FD and loves it and all of you guys love it so it must be good right hehe. So once this gos in along with the HKS Twin Power and then a FMIC I wonder if I'll be able to hit my 350RWHP goal.

Just make sure the warmup table and air temp table are setup perfect.

This is very difficult to do with any standalone , just because you might not get a 10F day in July, so you can do a coldstart there.

The Power FC has been tested in ALL conditions so there is barely any need for adjustment. My car starts perfect and idles fine ( like stock ) in a 120F summer day, and in the last 20F day that we had last week. And it is far from stock - 6x1000cc injectors, 100mm turbo, different intake manifold, etc etc...
