gear boost control

I have the older Select ecu and I'm looking to use boost control by gear but unsure how to use the Gear/Input table. Single turbo setup with 50mm external wastegate and open dump. Base PSI off the spring is around 6 psi. I went with lighter spring because I as getting boost creep. I eventually went with restrictor plate in the exhaust to fix the boost creep. I tuned the 2D wastegate DC in 3rd gear. But in 2nd gear, I'm getting boost spike and hitting the boost cut.

here's my current Road Speed screen and 2D Wastegate screen.

What does the Y axis represent on the Gear/Input table. I couldn't find any documentations on it.

offhand i would guess it is

gear / boost setting

boost setting being something like low, high, scramble on standalone controllers. but that is a guess as i am not very familiar with wari.

Do you have your speedo reading accurately/correctly?

yes the speed reads correctly compare to speedo on the car.

on the Road Speed table, I can limit the Duty by gear column, but I cant change the MAP column, it's grayed out. And I dont know how to use the 3D Gear/Input Map Table.
looks like it's gear 1-4 for input 0/1/2? not sure what the x/0, x/1, x/2, x/3 means. and what are the input? are they the digital input for different boost modes?

this is the only video i found on setting up boost by gear but there's no mention of the 3D gear/input table. maybe i don't need to use it for my application since i'm not using any additional input for different boost modes? or maybe by default, it use the input 0 for no external input? then i would rather use those 5 rows since they are higher resolution to manage boost by gear and rpm.

yea try setting up input 0 as that should be the default boost setting. if you had a toggle or rotary switch setup for changing boost levels the other inputs would come into play.

just for anyone else in the future, you have to enable the closed loop boost mode (labeled “Boost Control Parameters” on the bottom of the page) by changing the PID controller from all zeros. Just changing it from 0 to 1 in the Proportional setting only will do it. Otherwise with all zeros in there it’s operating as open loop boost control mode. At that point you then need to set the target boost and boost by map charts that will apear after changing just one of those parameters from zero and then dial in the PID values. I mostly use Eugene rather than that old Select legacy software though.

I was able to get Eugene software to connect with the Select ECU, so that's what I have been using.

ok, then on some of those maps that only list a single row, you right-click on the value you want to change (no indication like highlighting etc. that shows this though) type in the value you want on the map, and hit enter. Then the value should change to what was entered.

So there are a few puzzling scenarios like that where it doesn’t indicate something is selected when it is. The closed loop boost setting map is one. Think I only figured it out by the perseverance of trial and error

I also found that the speed calibration select mode doesn’t give the correct value. I had to put the car up on jackstands and drive the wheels up to 40mph and then manually manipulate the calibration value until the software speed display matched the speedometer. Once I did that and went through all the individual gear calibrations the software then correctly displayed each gear accordingly.

So once you do all that, then boost by gear should function properly in addition to boost by rpm map too.
