Unless daddy is rich... You young kids might end up killing yourselves tring to pay for maintaining these things, I have seen Ferarrai's cheaper to maintain. Dont be a suicide statistic get a 30K+ a year job with no bills before you try this at home kids. Not tring to say anyting bad about young kids, but be carefull what you wish for.

I live in oregon and now there is some goofy law that reqires you to PROVE that you are inroled in highschool before you can get your licence. (I think, im not completely sure but almost)

There is a reason that insuance is extreamly high for people under 21. Its because kids that age are consistanly bad drivers. AS A WHOLE. Not all of them are. I wasnt, and most of my friends werent either, but many people that age are. Thats why I say as a whole. That group range, (16-21 maybe?) arent the greatest drivers in the world. Sorry to abuse but its the truth. I think insurance companys would agree with me.

Speaking of insurance what do you youngins pay? Are you on your parents insurance or are you on your own?

The only word of advice i can give. YOU know how much car you have, the guy in the civic next to you also knows how much car you have, so why show it off and get into trouble. Hell as far as im concerned, save him the embarrasment.

Im on my parents insurance (yes im a lucky one) i think the group range for what insurance thinks is reckless is more like 16-25, atleast in Texas it is, as for the advice, i thought id add my .02, why not save yourself the gas too?, when you really stop and think of it, gas is a bitch at times....

Well, I'll put it like this. This car (the 3rd gen 7) IS alot to handle, at least financially. Sure this car shouldn't be too hard to drive if you are somewhat responsible. Maintenance, especially if not done yourself is very costly, aftermarket parts are costly, GAS for this thing is costly, and repairs are costly. As far as the generalization of young people on this forum goes, I feel as though its justified. Don't get me wrong I'm relatively young myself (23). I've had my share of driving offenses even while driving my mother's 92 corrola when I was sixteen. That is the reason insurance is generally higher for people in my age group. The irony in my case is when I was sixteen I was driving my mom's car. At seventeen I was driving a del sol SI and just recently I acquired my 3rd gen 7. I can honestly say I drive a heluvalot better and more responsibly now in the past 2 or 3 years since I've had my last ticket. I can claim I learned over time but maybe its the fact that with one more ticket I get my license suspended . Sorry for being a little long winded---->I just think this car is perfect for someone who's into cars, has plenty of money and time on their hands, no kids, adequately responsible, and knows the meaning of hard work.
My $0.02
or $1.00

DRAG RACING DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AS DRIVING. anyone can get behind the wheel of a car and go straight. take that same kid(GOOD DRIVER) out to willow springs/seca/sears point and see how he does. hell bring him to a local autoX when we see speeds of 70-75 miles per hour(gotta love wide open run-ways for an autoX course). 10 second quarter mile, WOW that is fast. my buddy just ran a 6.18 at well over 200mph. please dont confuse drag racing with driving. i dont see any skills in drag racing that can save your life on the streets, well maybe braking. if you road race or atleast autoX you will learn to drive the vehicle and the vehicle will not be the one driving.
STRAIGHT LINES ARE FOR FAST CARS
TURNS ARE FOR FAST DRIVERS

1. ZETEC (notZTEC) is just a name for the engine however the SVT does have Variable cam timing like the Z32
2. The 300ZX did not have anything like VTEC it just had some sort of cam timing advance and only on the intake cam I believe
3.VTEC is unique only to Hondas, you name me one other manufacturer that uses 2 profiles in one cam, you can't b/c it's patented by Honda
To stay OT, yes most variations of variable valve timing out there are not like VTEC in any way. they simply vary the angle between the cam and the cam gear, like adjustable cam gears on the fly.

VTEC changes the cam lobe profile, including duration and lift, its like swaping the cams on the fly. It was patented by Honda, but like all patents, it expired. The only car company to take advantage of this is Toyota with its VVTL-i the L for lift in its 2ZZ-GE engine that is in the 2000 and up Celica GT-S, and now the 2003 and up Toyota Matrix XRS and Pontiac Vibe GT.

Honda's new iVTEC engines take advantage of both technologies with traditional VTEC and changing the cam/gear angle. I'm not sure if Toyotas VVTL-i only uses the VTEC technology, or both like the iVTEC.

hrmm... nobody even answered my question =\
what the hell are these wires sticking out and what do i do with them? they're the ones leading to the Fan Control area, they're exposed and they're all gooey. I don't know exactly where they lead to in the other direction, and I don't know how to go about fixing the problem, not only does it not look right, but it doesn't look safe either. I have another question to add, I think between my mom, my neighbors mom, my girl, and myself (this is my first manual) the clutch has been put through significant punishment, it smells like gunpowder when i pull into my garage or sometimes even while i'm driving, what should I do?

ps. i'm going to post this in another thread so that you guys can carry out your argument about how young drivers can't drive.

Original Message (haha i dunno how to do that)
I was 18 when I got mine and wrecked it 9 days later oh well live and learn now I am 22 year old vet sike......

I agree. It all depends on the person. I got my FD for my bday may 4 02, and a month later I took a curb turning to fast like an *******. You live and you learn. Plenty of people get into accidents between 16 and 18. Ya it sucks like 3 times as much when it's your FD that you would take over a porche, but luckily for me nobody was hurt, I didn't hit someone else and I didn't total the car. Now I know I won't ever do stupid stuff like that again. There are opposite ends of the spectrum. I and the post above are example of the dumb side. Then again plenty of people are smarter/better/LUCKIER than us. So ya, I hope I don't get extreme flame from either side on this post. I think it's pretty reasonable.

In reference to my above post, please do not think I take no care of my car what-so-ever. I cleaned out my garage myself so I could keep the car there, always covered. I wash it inside and out once a week minimally, and although you may not believe me, not once have I ever raced anybody. That one even shocks me.

ConfusedPerson,

I think the problem is that there is that "young driver" profiling that happens everywhere. Let's face it, 16-18 year olds are mostly naive drivers. That doesn't mean ALL, but MOST. They just haven't driven enough to experience everything.

I didn't have my first wreck until I was 20. Never occurred to me that a female would slam on her breaks and stop at a yield sign. Needless to say, my FC was totalled. Anyway, it was live and learn. If I'm coming up to a yield sign now, I don't look at oncoming traffic UNTIL the person in front of me is GONE, period.

But, the "young driver" profiling isn't just made up. It's there for a reason. A lot of young, inexperienced drivers, wreck cars. I see it all the time in my area as well as I'm sure a lot of other people do. Naive drivers having/causing accidents. Are you going to complain to an insurance company and tell them that even though you are young, you deserve an older person's insurance rate? You might try, but they will still treat you like a young driver.

So naturally when a young driver says they want a high powered sports car, most people assume they will wreck the car or worse, hurt themselves or someone else.

Just deal with it. Being young has it's advantages and it's disadvantages. All of us have been there and a few are there now (like yourself).

Very true, I agree, but throughout this thread I was just trying to prove my point that not ALLl 16-18 year old drivers are irresponsible, and drive like "****-heads" (MOST DO BUT NOT ALL) as someone has posted earlier, thats all i meant by my posts, no flame or heat was meant towards anyone, just trying to state my opinion with a little friendly debate...

my parents would never have helped pay for my FD if I wasn't a better driver than they were, I had to pay for half of it. I was simply commenting on how old all you guys were and making fun of you ok, chill with all of this 'young people drive like ****-heads' thing, everyone has been an inexperienced driver, we weren't all born elite drivers (like any of us are now), some of us gained experience faster, some of us take a few fender benders before we start learning. btw could someone please look at my other thread 'clutch/wire problem'? i know its fun to argue about how bad we 16 year olds drive, but I kinda needed some help too =\
