back from the dead...but I was talking to a friend who is partners at a machine shop and he told me that he runs Valvoline VR1 synthetic racing oil. It says or is implied that it is NOT street legal because it still contains all of the Zinc that the oil companies use to blend at a higher percentage. you can get it from NAPA still, just make sure you ask for the non street legal VR1 racing oil. It comes in 5W30, 10W30 and 20W50 viscosities.

As far as esters vs PAO's go....esters tend to swell seals, can handle higher temps, but tend to not "last" as long as PAO's like amsoil, hence you should change the oil sooner. PAO's tend to shrink seals, thats why companies like AMSOIL have a base stock of PAO with esters blended in to offset each other and tend to last longer, hence extended drain interval. Redline and Motul are suppose to be of a ester group V base stock, but not sure if they blend in PAO's, I am sure they have to, but anyone else like to chime in on that one.

I use to run Amsoil 20W50 racing oil in the FD. I run Amsoil 10W40 in the supra, BUT am thinking about switching to Redline or Motul 300V. Anyone else have experience with these other two oils and comparisons, good bad, etc...?
