The yellow beast runs again!!!

I purchased Blake's engine to get my track car running again while my other engine gets sorted out.

Here is a link to some pics:
http://www.myrx7.com/images/blakes_engine/

I'll be at the autobahn in joliet, IL this coming weekend and I'll see how she runs.

PS

Even though I missed the last event, I still won the NASA Pro Racing TTU championship from my point lead. Was not much competition or showing for my class, but it sure was fun!!! You can see the final TT standings in the middle of this page: www.racenasa.com
The second place guy drove one of these: http://www.rpmautosports.com/images/32dsr-midohio1.jpg

next season should be a good one (nasa SU w2w class maybe, and ...one lap of america? hmmm?)

I was reasing SCC today. Damian, how about you put an interior in your car for a month and enter the USCC? I think you'd fair way better than any of the Rx-7s of the past.

I still have the interior? the only thing missing is the rear hatch stuff and the roof top (for wiring reasons) ... i still have full carpet, dash, and side panels...its a 'luxury' race car LOL

USCC= Ultimate Street Car Challenge

It is a competition held Anually by Sport Compact Car with major backing by several sponsors. Around 10 cars are put through a series of tests and highest score at the end is the winner.

The tests are:

1. Base Price- Points are divided up based on a car's price as new. This gives guys who start out with something cheap an edge and makes it so you can't show up with an exotic. Rx-7s usually fall somewhere in the middle as far as New Price goes.

2. Grandma- This test has to do with how much of the car is still a "street car" and not some no interior, no a/c having, loud *** exhaust that feels like it doesn't even have suspension. Basically you take "Grandma" for a ride around the block and hopefully she's comfy. Things like a stock passenger seat, cold a/c, reasonable exhaust noise and decent suspension stiffness score points here. If you had a the stock passenger seat and a/c, the other stuff wouldn't be TOO bad.

3. Car Show- This is basically just a judgement based upon looks by people who do it all the time. As far as everyone on this forum goes, you have one of the best looking and functional FDs on the board.

4. Guru Panel- This is where a bunch of car geeks go inside and out your engine bay and undercarriage. They look for nice modification but most importantly, FUNCTIONAL modification. You have tons of extremely functional custom fabrication on your car which would certainly impress the panel.

5. Dyno (Peak Power)- This is just a horsepower war. If you could make anything over 400hp that would be fine. This is a competition where you just try and stay in it, because we just can't compete with displacement.

6. Dyno (Power Delivery)-A smoothe torque curve and wide power band is what scores here. Your reasonably small single turbo would do well here with it's quick spooling.

7. Driveability- This is a measure of how driveable the car is on the street. Somewhat like the Granny test, this has to do with driver comfort in the seat, how the car takes bumps, if it can manage the occasional steep driveway, exhaust noise, etc.

*NOTE*-I have an Idea for the exhaust that would make a HUGE difference in a lot of the tests. I'll let you know in private if you're interested.

8. Emissions-How Toxic is the car? My exhaust idea would apply here.

9. Fuel economy- Driving a certain distant: Who uses the least gas. Many competitors use strategies like staying off boost, keeping it in the tallest gear, and drafting behind a support vehicle. -10 points if you HAVE to use race gas.

Here comes the performance stuff (where your car would go from mediocre to dominating some of these tests)

10. Acceleration (Quarter Mile)- Best Quarter Mile time wins this. Low 12s puts you in the top of this pack and 11s will put you in the top 3.

11. Acceleration (20-100)- Let's you have an edge on those pesky AWD cars. Who can pull from 20-100 quickest?

12. Braking- A test of who can brake in the least distance from 60mph. Your track car would likely do well here.

13. Skidpad- Might as well be in the bag. This years Rx-7 put down 1.09 with an LS1 and it wasn't built nearly to the spec of your car.

14. Road Course- No doubt in my mind that your car would take top 3 at least in this competition.

15. Gross Display of Horsepower- Burnouts and Drifts GALORE! Rockford always wins this (starting in reverse, hauling ***, and busting a beautiful 180)

I feel like your car can be well rounded in most tests (especially with my suggested exhaust modification) while dominating in many others. All the past winners have usually placed in the top 5 in most tests while dominating only a few. It's being well rounded in everything even if not the best that wins this thing.

Pick up the December issue of Sport Compact Car if you want to know more. I really hope you consider this, as we need an Rx-7 in it that really makes waves. We haven't even gotten anything in the top 50% yet

dood, from what you posted, my car would not do well at all.

I have interisor but no AC and full racing suspension that is VERY stiff, grama would die in this car. it would score high in car show and guru panel and probably win the road cource test, but fail in every other category....and im not about to change a winning track car up for this deal. but it sounds fun really, if you started with a more stock chassy and worked up.

To reiterate what Damian said...

Yeah, this is a cool thing, but his car is *NOT* a street car. It's almost painful to drive/ride in on the street (No offense Damian) but it absolutely is bananas on the track.

This is a 'One Lap' car, not a USCC challenger.
